    2.0 - Rather poor

Unfortunately this tour got off to a rocky start when I had to contact Wild n Happy 3 days before departing overseas for Ireland to advise I had not received my itinerary/vouchers. I had been told I would receive these two weeks prior to departure. Claiming that you are backlogged and therefore late in providing documents is a poor excuse. At the very least you could have contacted the tour group and advised that documents would be late .Unfortunately, the poor communication experienced at the outset of the tour continued throughout the tour. The switching of guides after days 2 AND 3 and ultimately ending up with a driver who was clearly not a guide was unprofessional and very disappointing. Short of advising of the population of varied spots there were no insights as to history or culture during the tour. We had booked this tour not only to traverse Ireland but to learn of and experience the history and culture. Our first two days with Andy and subsequent one day with Michael did provide some background and local flavor. Unfortunately there were no further insights with Dermot, the subsequent driver who remained with us for the balance of the tour. Our van, which was spacious at the outset became unbearably crowded with the merging of another tour group and various day trippers, which came as a complete surprise (zero communicaton) to the initial tour group. To further aggravate an already aggravating situation our driver did not know how to operate the van's ventilation system. We reverted to driving with the roof window open even during rainstorms. Communication regarding driver/guide changes, group additions, itinerary changes, cash required for various entrance fees were non existent. On day 3 of tour I left a message for owner Michael to contact me in order to communicate the problems, in the hopes of improving the remaining 4-5 days. Unfortunately no effort was made to contact me and discussions with Dermot proved futile. As a client, I do not need to hear that it is "high season" and that the company is stretched to its operating capacity and that drivers can only by law drive for so long. You were clearly aware of the tours dates and destinations and should have planned accordingly to have one driver/guide and one group for its duration. On the whole, we were pleased with our accomodations in the hotel/deluxe category. However our hotel in Killarrney was a disappointment. I can certainly appreciate the charm of an older hotel but this was by no means of a 4 star caliber and our room was in dire need of a renovation/update, not to mention a good cleaning. Further, being on a small group tour we were disappointed to be staying at a large group tour hotel. Having paid a considerable upgrade fee for this category we were let down and unfortunately spent 4 nights there. Had I received follow up upon requesting to be contacted, I would have passed on this feedback.

    3.5 - Good

Overall, there was a lot to like about the tour, but it had a few unexpected and unpleasant surprises that others should be prepared for it they book this tour. Big (unpleasant) surprise: halfway through our tour, our original guide left and we were combined with another group--making our "small group" a lot larger, making the bus a lot more crowded, and generally interrupting the group dynamics we had established. This was made worse by the fact that day trippers were also added to the group for several days as well, which made the experience feel less like a small group tour, and more like a very long bus ride on an absolutely STUFFED bus which, unfortunately, did not have consistently working air conditioning or ventilation--it was extremely stuffy. Our first guide (Andy) seemed to really think about making the experience special and meaningful, and giving us information and choice. So, he shared a lot of information during the drive and offered us choices in restaurants and in experiences. And, none of the experiences felt like a tourist trap. Not so with the second guide, Andy, who made the whole bus stop and get out at various tourist stops and pressured the group into pay additional entrance fees for truly substandard experiences (avoid the Irish Famine Experience--with its crumbling, mouldering cottages and nasty, mouldering mannequins; all "self-guided" but with very few, and outdated, guide information); setting up group lunches at restaurants and not providing any information for tour members that wanted to NOT eat with the group, dropping us off at glorified shopping excursions--like the Dingle Crystal shop that involved a 3 minute demonstration of crystal cutting and then a shepherding into the gift shop. All these experiences made it feel lke we were on a HUGE bus tour, not the custom, specialized experience we had signed up for.

I was initially disappointed with the tour because on the first day, we realized that we would not be following the itinerary at all. We ended up wasting a bit of time because there was a miscommunication between our group and the guide. He continually gave us offers to make stops for whatever activity we liked- which was thoughtful- but we had no idea what was available and ended up a little frustrated that we did not follow the schedule. I ended up having a wonderful time because I decided to go with the flow and make the most of all of my time. My favorite activites were kayaking at Lake Killarney, Bunratty Castle/Estate, Brays Head & Mizen Head, visits to small towns like Dingle & Doolin. I additionally visited a pub in Doolin for live music (O'Connors), saw an Irish dance show in Galway (Trad on the Prom), and visited the Blennerville Windmill while in Tralee. I definitely recommend these additional things! All of the hotels that Wild N Happy arranged for us were very high quality- probably 4 stars on an American standard. I was very pleased & comfortable with these. Our first van had no A/C which was bad because of the heat wave but the 2nd van was fantastic- plenty of room. Our guide was very cheerful and engaging all throughout the tour and made us feel safe with his driving. I was thankful for his knowledge about Ireland and kind personality. I recommend this trip!!!! Great tour company!

The accommodation was not always "luxury" in US terms. The Harbour View in Galway should be reassessed - at least in warm weather tours. We had a room with no air conditioning and a compressor outside that went on and off all night. We checked in early when there would have been a better room available than room 224 on the "Executive Floor" (our niece was given an air conditioned room on the 1st Floor). One of the other couples had to leave their bedroom door open a little to let the air conditioning from the corridor into their room. We also could have used more details about the options available on the tour.

The tour and scenery was fabulous! The guides were knowledgeable and fun, not sure if it was planned to have 3 different guides but each have their own spin. They even changed itinerary a bit to accommodate group wanting to see Blarney Castle. Loved all the stays especially Doolin where the whole pub sang me Happy Birthday...thank you Michael! My new Ireland families on this tour we're wonderful and would like to clone them for next tour I take. Somehow Michael Mor managed to order beautiful weather this whole trip as well.

Forget those big bus nightmares. Join this small but mighty tour company. It’s still new and growing. While it has some growing pains: it can’t be beat for the enthusiasm of Michael and his staff. Thank you all

As the other half of the 40th anniversary couple (see my hubby's review too), this was the perfect trip to celebrate our special occasion. Our tour guide Dermot was knowledgeable about Irish history, but even more importantly he obviously loves his country and her people and shared that with us, so the history was more personal and compassionate, not just places and dates. We had the opportunity and the time to explore sites of history and sites of incredible natural beauty. The B&Bs we stayed at were lovely and offered wonderful breakfasts, and Dermot took us to the very best places for lunch each day - delicious homemade traditional soups, breads, and desserts, among the many choices, something for everyone, and reasonably priced. I am a very curious person and ask a lot of questions, and Dermot was happy to answer them and to look things up to provide even more information - this meant a lot to me. Our travel mates were great and we learned things about each other's countries and shared some fun times and breath-taking scenery. In the evenings we explored the cities we stayed in on our own or together, and enjoyed some lovely evenings at local pubs with music and singing. I would encourage anyone of any age considering a visit to southern Ireland to consider this small group tour - you can leaving the driving to them, and feel like you are among family.
