What's the typical duration of Athens, Santorini & Mykonos tours starting in Athens?

Tours generally span 7-10 days with 8-9 day trips being the most common choice for visitors. The Greek Island Hopper format dedicates 2 days to Athens landmarks including the Acropolis and Parthenon followed by 3-day stays in both Santorini and Mykonos. Past travelers report the three-day allocation for each destination provides sufficient time to explore local culture sites and dining at a comfortable pace. As one TourRadar traveler mentioned "3 days in each location gave us time to explore the area culture and people. We had plenty of time for shopping dining checking out local places of interest at our own pace."

What are the common starting points for tours in Athens?

Tour groups typically gather at Athens International Airport where transfers bring guests to hotels near central locations such as Syntagma Square Plaka or the Acropolis district. The Divani Caravel Hotel Radisson Blu Park Hotel and Crystal City Hotel serve as frequent meeting points for tour departures. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "Our driver was waiting at Athens airport with our name and the transfer to our hotel near Syntagma Square was seamless."

What's the best time of year to start an Athens-Islands tour?

The main tourist season runs May through September with July and August drawing the largest crowds to Athens and the islands. Experienced travelers often choose June or September for pleasant weather and fewer tourists. Spring and fall months like April and October offer comfortable Athens temperatures around 20°C (68°F) while the islands maintain warmer conditions. A TourRadar traveler shared: "We went in September and the weather was perfect - warm enough for swimming but not too hot for sightseeing in Athens."

What accommodation options are available in Athens before heading to the islands?

Most tours place guests in 4-star properties such as the Titania Hotel near Syntagma Square or the Fresh Hotel in the historic center before continuing to island destinations. These hotels provide strategic locations for exploring attractions and accessing transportation. According to a TourRadar review: "The Titania Hotel in Athens was perfectly located - we could walk to the Acropolis and Plaka district easily."

What are the must-see attractions in Athens at the start of the tour?

Key sites include the Acropolis complex Parthenon ruins Plaka's historic streets Temple of Zeus and the contemporary Acropolis Museum. Most itineraries begin at the Panathenaic Stadium then explore the historic center near Syntagma Square. Visitors often stay at central properties like Dorian Inn or Athens Avenue. As one TourRadar traveler shared: "Our first day walking tour through Athens including the Acropolis and ancient agora was incredible - the local guide made history come alive."

What optional activities are available during free time in Athens?

During free periods visitors can join sunset tours to Cape Sounion explore food tours in Plaka visit the Ancient Agora or take day excursions to Delphi or Meteora. Local tour representatives help arrange these add-on experiences. As one TourRadar traveler shared: "Our Athens representative helped arrange an amazing food tour through Plaka and Monastiraki that became a trip highlight."
