Alberta Tours & Trips
Have you seen the Rockies when they're properly covered in snow? You'll stay in cozy mountain lodges, snowshoe through forests to spot elk, maybe skate on frozen Lake Louise if you're there at the right time, ride gondolas up Sulphur Mountain, explore the Icefields Parkway, walk on an actual glacier, taste wine in the Okanagan, and end each day by a fire. Canadian winter done right.

Our guide Mike was great, very enthusiastic, passionated, entertaining, and made the best out of each day. The tour had 2 great days in Alberta, BC stops and the rest of the tour was rather disappointing. Do not expect to see wildlife on the tour. All villages chosen were boring, hostels not well picked at all, most accommodation was aweful and room distribution chaotic. Not enough F&B included, and what was included was not good except Mike's tortillas. No laundry possible in any accommodation, Bus was pretty old. Although it was a nice week, I would not really recommend it to friends. Big thank you to Mike for his engagement.

Great tour! I would recommend it! Highlights as follows: 1. Great Tour Lead Chris ensured everyone was comfortable, and he was fun, informative, polite/respectful! He is great! Great people skills! 2. Mr. Yee – our driver. Drove us safely and back! Could not have asked for a more skilled driver. Ace driver, given the varying road conditions with rain and snowfall we encountered. 3. Comments on the activities we did: 1. We did tubing for 2 hours before calling it a night in Vernon. Two hours were plenty to enjoy the stop. The activity was free to enjoy for everyone. Has the option to ice skate on a smaller frozen lake. Also for free 2. Day 2 in Banf – we did have the option to ice skate in Lake Louis. Optional at the cost of CAD 24.99. Spent a chunk of time walking to the rental store inside the chateau to registering and getting our skate shoes. After we got our shoes and were ready to skate, we had little time to ice skate and enjoyed the frozen Lake Louise. 3. We did have some time at night to stroll around Banf center 4. Day 3 – option to ski at Lake Louise Ski Resort (can rent ski clothing and equipment for a fee of abt $150~. The ski lift is $50-100. For non-skiers, they offered optional activities for a fee - e.g., snowshoeing/hiking in the AM and Gondola in the PM. You also have the option to go around town on your own at no extra cost. They give you plenty of information, and you can ask questions to decide what you want to do for Day 3. Somehow you could only pick one option. Wish they could allow doing more than one option, e.g., doing one AM activity and then doing a PM activity with no conflict in time. If you plan to ski, you spend your day at the ski resort until the bus comes and picks you up. You have to plan for how to store your luggage since you will go on a different shuttle for the ski resort. You may have to arrange to leave your luggage with someone in the group so it’s on the bus and you don’t carry it with you to the resort. The Lake Louise Ski Resort was top-notched! 5. We end day 3 in Golden. 6. Day 4 It’s pretty much driving back to Vancouver. Chris was great at keeping us informed/entertained for that long drive back. Props to Mr. Yee as well. 7. We did stop at two frozen lakes as bonus stops. One is in Banf, and the other is the Emerald Lake. It was almost magical at the time of the visit to Emerald Lake because it was snowing pretty heavily, and we were walking on a frozen, snow-covered lake! Beautiful! We had a group picture here. 8. Lots of driving, which usually is the deal with types of tours. I am used to this type of tour. I take this type of tour all the time. So be in that mindset. 9. Overall I enjoyed the tour a lot! I enjoyed this part of Canada! My first was on a frozen lake! So thank you! On a side note, a big thank you to Mr. Yee. He knew we were spending two more days in Vancouver and gave us the best tip on maximizing the 24-hour hop-off hop-on tour. If you care to know, here are his tips. 1. Go to Gas town first (on your own). Get your picture of the Steam Clock. Go there before the hour because, at the hour, the clock will whistle and will blow off steam. You don’t want to miss this. 2. After you are done with Gastown, you walk to Canada Place. It is only like 5-6 minute walk. You get your ticket there. You start the hop-hop-off tour here. 3. Then stop and explore for a certain amt of time: 1. Stanley Park, 2. Granville Park, and 3. Chinatown. Explore the other stops if you have time, based on your interest.

Best time to visit Alberta
- Spring 2026
Spring tours catch the Rockies as winter loosens its grip. The 5-day routes from Calgary hit that sweet spot when glacial lakes start to thaw, before summer brings the crowds. You'll reach Moraine Lake right as it opens, usually from late May, watching the ice break up to show those blue waters underneath. Our groups really like combining walks through Marble Canyon with warm soaks at Radium Hot Springs in Kootenay National Park. The Icefields Parkway drives work really well this time of year - you might spot mountain goats, elk and also bears coming out to feed on the new spring growth.

- Summer 2026
Summer's long days mean more time to explore Alberta's alpine areas. The 5-day summer circuits maximize time at Lake Louise, Moraine Lake and also Peyto Lake when their turquoise colors really pop. Our travelers appreciate the extra evening light for exploring Banff and Jasper towns after full days in the parks. These tours include a boat trip to Spirit Island on Maligne Lake, walks on the Athabasca Glacier and also rides up Sulphur Mountain's gondola for big valley views. The guides know exactly when to visit spots along the Icefields Parkway, avoiding the busy times while getting perfect photos.

- Fall / Autumn 2026
Fall brings golden larches and quieter trails once the summer crowds head home. The 5-day autumn tours use the clear mountain air and steady weather for exploring Johnston Canyon, Maligne Canyon and also the Icefield Parkway's lookouts. Our September and October groups often see more wildlife - especially elk during rutting season around Jasper. You'll still visit all the major spots like Lake Louise and Moraine Lake before it closes for winter, but with better timing since the peak crowds are gone. Our travelers really like how the comfortable hiking temperatures pair with great photo light as the fall colors reach their peak. From what our travelers tell us, all three Calgary tour companies have their own strengths and quirks. Calgary Tours gets lots of praise for running smooth trips with guides who really know their stuff, though you might need to listen carefully since some guides have strong accents. Meanwhile, Discover Canada Tours has built quite a following thanks to Rhawnie - she's incredibly knowledgeable about the area and brings everything to life. Just keep in mind the Ranch dinner they include isn't anything special according to recent feedback. If you're up for something more active, Fresh Adventures offers some really unique hikes that other companies don't do, and guide Alex actually prepares amazing trail meals that our customers rave about. Just be aware - when they say "challenging" they mean it. Some of our travelers found the hiking more demanding than they expected, so it's worth having an honest chat about your fitness level before booking. These companies are all solid choices depending on what you're after - whether that's a classic sightseeing experience, learning from expert guides or getting off the beaten path with some serious hiking and excellent food along the way.
