- Day 1
Chalon-sur-Saône
You'll arrive in Chalon-sur-Saône by train from Paris, coming through Dijon. Once you're settled, take a walk through the old town and check out the Nicéphore Niépce Museum if you're interested in photography history. Alternatively, grab a coffee or lunch at one of the riverside cafés and just soak in the atmosphere. If you're arriving on a Sunday, the region's largest market will be happening with fresh produce, local cheeses, wines and handmade goods on display.

Chalon-sur-Saône to Tournus
Today you'll cycle along the Saône on a flat, easy route heading toward Tournus. The terrain is gentle, so there's plenty of opportunity to stop whenever you want and take in the surroundings. When you arrive in Tournus, wander through the quiet streets or visit Saint-Philibert Abbey, which shows off some really impressive medieval architecture from centuries past.

Tournus to Mâcon
You'll follow the Voie Bleue cycle path for a calm, flat ride from Tournus to Mâcon, sitting right along the Saône. Mâcon has a lively market scene, nice views of the river and plenty of history to explore. Check out Saint-Vincent cathedral or spend the afternoon in a café trying local food and wine from the area.

Mâcon to Cluny
Start your morning at Mâcon's Friday market where you'll find regional cheeses, wines and handmade items. After browsing, you'll cycle on a steeper route up to Solutré Rock, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with wide views across the vineyards below. On the way there and after, you'll pass through Berzé-le-Châtel, a small village with a strong medieval fortress, then continue on to Cluny and its significant Benedictine abbey that once held major influence across medieval Europe.

After that, you'll cycle back toward Chalon-sur-Saône through quiet countryside and small villages. Along the route, stop to see the Château de Cormatin, a well-kept Renaissance building with nice formal gardens surrounding it.
