Itinerary
- Day 1
Glengarriff
You'll arrive in Glengarriff and get settled into your base for the coming days. If you're interested in gardens, there are a couple of options to consider. Garnish Island sits just offshore and you can reach it by a short ferry ride to walk through its formal gardens. Alternatively, the EWE Gardens are nearby and accessible by cab if you'd rather stay closer by.

Landmarks Garnish Island - Day 2
Adrigole to Glengarriff
This morning you'll head to Adrigole where your walking begins. The Beara Way footpath is well marked and takes you through the foothills of the Caha Mountains, passing through a nature reserve along the way. You're covering about 18km total, with just over half the route on surfaced paths and the rest on trail. By late afternoon you'll return to Glengarriff.

Landmarks Adrigole Caha Mountains Beara Way - Day 3
Adrigole to Castletownbere
Starting again from Adrigole, you're heading west today with Hungry Hill rising up ahead of you. The path takes you toward Castletownbere through valleys and moorland tracks, mixing in some mountain sections. Throughout the day you'll have views south across Bantry Bay toward the Sheeps Head Peninsula. The walk comes to about 18.2km.

Landmarks Hungry Hill Bantry Bay Sheeps Head Peninsula - Day 4
Bere Island
You'll catch a short ferry out to Bere Island this morning for today's hike. Walking around the island, you'll pass the Ardnakinna lighthouse, an old signal tower, a high cross, and a Martello tower. Most of the 15.3km route sits on paved paths, so it's relatively smooth underfoot. The ferry brings you back to Castletownbere by evening.

Castletownbere to Allihies
Leaving Castletownbere, you're walking west across the foothills of the Slieve Miskish Mountains toward the old copper mining village of Allihies. An ancient ringfort sits along the route. As you climb higher, the views open up west over the peninsula tip to Dursey and the islands beyond. This is a longer day at 25.7km.

Landmarks Slieve Miskish Mountains Allihies - Day 6
Allihies to Dursey
From Allihies you're heading west again, with views unfolding across Ballydonegan Bay and toward Dursey Sound. The Firkeel Gap is on your route and there's an ancient Wedge Tomb in the area worth checking out. You'll mix surfaced paths and trails over the 24.2km, so the terrain stays varied.

Landmarks Ballydonegan Bay Firkeel Gap Wedge Tomb - Day 7
Dursey Island
Ireland's only cable car gets you out to Dursey Island this morning. Once there, you'll walk over the crest of hills that form the island's center and return via the main road. It's a nice 13km circuit, and you might spot whales or dolphins out on the western tip if you're lucky.

Landmarks Dursey Island - Day 8
Allihies to Eyeries
You're leaving Allihies today and exploring more of the old copper mining area before heading along the north coast to reach Eyeries. This colorful village sits overlooking Coulagh Bay and offers a very different feel from the southern side of the peninsula. The north coast has its own landscape character. You're covering 17.1km mostly on established paths.

Landmarks Eyeries Coulagh Bay - Day 9
Eyeries to Lauragh
Heading east from Eyeries toward Ardgroom, you'll find the famous stone circles that have stood for about a thousand years. Small coves and harbors dot the way, and views open north across the Kenmare River to the Ring of Kerry. By day's end you'll reach the tiny village of Lauragh, sitting close to the Healy Pass and near Glanmore Lake. It's a 13.7km day.

Lauragh to Kenmare
Today brings two mountain passes with rewarding views down to the Cloonee Lakes, Uragh Woods, and the stone circle in the area. You'll also see into the Gleninchaquinn Valley. Your destination is Kenmare, a historic town that serves as your endpoint. Expect significant elevation gain over the 19.1km route.
