Itinerary
- Day 1
Montevideo
You'll arrive in Montevideo and get transferred to your hotel, then have the rest of the day to explore at your own pace. Walking along the 30-kilometre Rambla gives you great views of the Rio de la Plata, and you can stop for mate and wander through the mix of old and new buildings around the city. In the evening, head to Primuseum restaurant for a 6-course dinner with local specialties and Uruguayan wines, followed by a tango show with professional dancers. After the performance, it's back to your hotel.

- Day 2
Montevideo
Join a guided tour hitting Montevideo's main spots including Plaza Constitucion with its cathedral and colonial town hall, the Solis Theater, and Independence Square featuring the Jose Gervasio Artigas statue. Stop by Mercado del Puerto at the harbor to try traditional Uruguayan barbecue, then browse handmade crafts at Mercado de los Artesanos. The Palacio Legislativo with its 52 different colored marbles is on the itinerary, along with Centenario stadium (where Uruguay won the first World Cup in 1930) and the upscale Carrasco district with Hotel Casino Carrasco. Plaza Virgilio offers nice skyline views before you finish with a 1-hour tango introduction class at Cordon Sur Tango dance school.

Montevideo to Carmelo
Pick up a rental car near your hotel and drive to Carmelo, a town with well-preserved historic buildings on the Rio de la Plata banks and some of the region's best wineries. You'll check in at Narbona Wine Lodge (book the winery tour for day 4 if interested). Late afternoon brings a sunset boat trip on the Rio de la Plata through Uruguayan and Argentinian coastal waters with snacks and drinks, or this might shift to day 4 depending on weather. Then head back to the lodge.

Landmarks Narbona Wine Lodge Rio de la Plata - Day 4
Carmelo
Everything today centers on wine at Narbona Wine Lodge. You'll do a guided tour with an oenologist learning about how the wines get made, and the lodge also shows off its homemade jams, cheese, and liqueurs. Afterward, try three first-class wines paired with a nice selection of cheese, bread, nuts, and crackers.

Landmarks Narbona Wine Lodge - Day 5
Carmelo to Colonia del Sacramento
Drive to Colonia del Sacramento, the oldest European settlement in Uruguay founded by the Portuguese in 1680. Start at the city welcome sign on the promenade and check out the Real de San Carlos district with its 1910 bullring and San Benito chapel. Walk through the UNESCO World Heritage historic center, see the city gate and wooden drawbridge from 1745, and stroll down Calle de los Suspiros with houses that are 250 years old. Head to Plaza Mayo through the cobbled streets, visit the lighthouse and city museum, then see the Santisimo Sacramento Cathedral (Uruguay's oldest church). The westernmost point offers great views of the area, and you can browse art galleries and craft shops for souvenirs.

Colonia del Sacramento to Montevideo
Drive back to Montevideo and return the rental car at the airport. Your trip ends here with individual departures.
