Itinerary
- Day 1
Bucharest to Zarnesti
Your Romanian adventure kicks off at Bucharest North Station before 2 pm. You'll board a train heading to Brasov, switch trains there, then continue on to Zarnesti, a small mountain village that sits right at the entrance to Piatra Craiului National Park. Once you arrive, settle in and have dinner to recover from the travel day.

Zarnesti
This morning you'll cycle at the base of the Fagaras Mountains with the option to take a 7 km detour to visit a bear sanctuary near Zarnesti if you're interested. After that, head over to Ohaba where you can see Romania's oldest water-powered flour mill and learn about its history during the communist period. It's a quieter day of cycling with some cultural stops mixed in.

Landmarks Fagaras Mountains - Day 3
Ohaba - Carta
You'll pedal through the Fagaras Mountains today, crossing the Bucium River as you go. The route takes you through Lisa, which has a 100-year-old wool blanket machine still operating, then through Sambata de Sus where there's an impressive 1696 Brancovenesc Monastery worth seeing. Later you'll pass through Dragus and its ethnographic museum before finishing the day in Carta, where you can walk around the ruins of a Cistercian monastery.

- Day 4
Carta - Transfagarasan
The morning starts with a bus ride up to Balea Waterfalls. From there, you'll cycle down the Transfagarasan road, which is one of Europe's most scenic mountain routes, so the descent gives you incredible views as you make your way down the mountain. It's a memorable day of riding through dramatic landscape.

Transfagarasan - Biertan
You'll continue cycling through Transylvania's rolling countryside toward Biertan, known for its massive fortified church that has multiple ring walls surrounding it. Along the route, you'll travel quiet country roads and get views of another fortified church at Richis. The riding today is more pastoral, with farmland and villages rather than mountain terrain.

- Day 6
Biertan - Sighisoara
Today you'll cycle to Sighisoara, one of the few fully inhabited medieval citadels still standing in Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once there, you can wander the old town and see the famous clock tower, the covered staircases connecting different levels, the medieval alleyways, and the house where Vlad Dracul was born. If you're interested, there's an optional detour to Dumbraveni to visit an important Armenian Catholic church.

- Day 7
Sighisoara - Soars
You'll cycle through hilly countryside to Apold first, which is known for its beautiful fortified church, then continue on to Soars where you're staying tonight. The country roads wind through remote and peaceful areas, and you'll likely see shepherds with their flocks of sheep grazing as you ride past. It's a quieter day focused on the landscape and small village life.

Soars - Viscri
Viscri is one of the highlights of your trip, and you'll cycle there today. The fortified church here was restored with support from the Prince Charles Foundation, and it's worth spending time exploring. You can walk through the village itself and even visit the local blacksmith if you want to see traditional craftsmanship. The ride goes through ancient villages and the countryside feels timeless.

Viscri to Bucharest
After breakfast, you'll take a private transfer from Viscri to Brasov to catch your train back to Bucharest. Several train departures are available from 13:30 onward, so you'll have flexibility with timing, though the train ticket back isn't part of your tour package and you'll need to book it separately.
