Itinerary
- Day 1
Oslo to Bygdin
You'll board a bus from Oslo at 8:30 am and head toward Bygdin. Once you arrive, you'll get on the historic MB Bitihorn, a boat built back in 1912, for a scenic cruise to Eidsbugarden. Your host will tell you about the cabin belonging to famous Norwegian poet Aasmund Clavson Vinje and how he connected with the Jotunheimen mountains.

- Day 2
Bygdin
This day involves hiking alongside Lake Bygdin for most of the route, then going over a hill to reach a pond before heading back down to Torfinnsbu. The walk covers about 20 km and takes around 8 hours, so it's a full day on your feet. If weather turns bad or you'd rather take it easy, a boat option is available for an extra fee. When you get to Torfinnsbu, you'll cook your own meals using groceries from the hut's shop.

Landmarks Lake Bygdin - Day 3
Bygdin - Svartdalen
You'll trek through Svartdalen, also called Black Valley, where you can see many 2,000-meter peaks and glaciers spread across the landscape. This hike is challenging with rocky terrain, so having good footing and trekking poles really helps. The descent gets steep and can be slippery, requiring careful steps. At Gjendine bue, the oldest hut in the DNT network, your host will share stories about the farmers who lived in this area during the early 1900s.

- Day 4
Svartdalen - Memurubu
You'll start your day along Lake Gjende, then climb steeply up an exposed section to reach a ridge with wonderful views of mountains and lakes below. From there, you descend steeply into Memurudalen and arrive at Memurubu for the night. This route follows the historic path that milkmaids, farmers, and herders once used when moving cattle, sheep, and goats over the mountains from Lom and Végé.

Landmarks Lake Gjende Bukkelaegret - Day 5
Memurudalen - Gjendesheim
Today you'll hike the famous Besseggen ridge, one of Norway's most popular hiking routes and the route that inspired a scene in Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. You'll walk along the narrow, airy ridge with Gjende lake sitting 400 meters below on one side in vivid green, and the deep blue Bessvatnet on the other side. The ridge gives you fantastic views of the majestic Jotunheimen mountains all around.

Gjendesheim to Oslo
After your time in the mountains, you'll depart from Gjendesheim and take the bus back to Oslo, wrapping up your hiking adventure in Jotunheimen.
