Itinerary
- Day 1
Aragon to Escalona
You'll pick up your vehicle and drive toward Aragon, heading into the Pyrenees. The main event is hiking through Anisclo Canyon on a gentle uphill trail with nice views of the surrounding landscape. After reaching your turnaround point, you'll head back down via a different route that takes you past old monastery ruins and an ancient stone bridge. By evening you'll settle into the village of Escalona, which sits at the base of the cliffs and serves as your base for the night.

Ainsa
You're spending the day in Ordesa National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hike takes you through Ordesa Canyon as you climb toward Horsetail Waterfall, and you'll get good panoramic views along the way. The return trip is downhill back to the parking area. After lunch, you'll check out the medieval town of Ainsa, walking through its old stone streets and stopping at the Pyrenees flora and fauna museum. You can spend time along the river, then grab dinner at one of the traditional restaurants in town.

Aran Valley
You'll drive from Aragon into Catalonia, heading toward a valley close to the French border. Once you reach Benasque Valley, there's a hike up to Lake Toro, an alpine lake surrounded by dramatic mountain scenery. You'll return along the same trail, then continue driving to Aran Valley for the night. The valley has nice mountain views and you'll get a feel for the area before exploring it further the next day.

Pallaresa Valley
You're hiking through Aran Valley today, moving between small villages on your way to the remote hamlet of Montgarri. From there you'll cross over into the Pallaresa Valley. Along the way you can walk through Bagergue, a well-preserved village, and if it's open you might visit a local dairy to see how they work. The trail winds through mountain landscapes that feel pretty authentic to the Pyrenees region, mixing forest sections with higher meadows.

Val Ferera
You're starting the day on the Noguera Pallaresa River doing a rafting run down the rapids. You'll gear up in a neoprene suit and safety equipment before hitting the water, so bring a towel because you'll want a warm shower afterward. Later in the day you'll head to Val Ferera, a mountain valley near the French-Spanish border, where you'll do a scenic hike on quiet trails. The area has good views and a nice mix of terrain that shows off the natural character of this part of the Pyrenees.

Aiguestortes National Park
Today you're going into Aiguestortes National Park, one of the major reserves in the Spanish Pyrenees. You'll start from Espot and a local jeep will take you deep into the park where the main attractions are. From there you hike through terrain with alpine lakes, waterfalls that flow down the mountainside, and little waterways threading through the landscape. Mountain backdrops frame everything you see during the hike.

Barcelona
You're driving back toward Barcelona and stopping at Montserrat, a mountain sanctuary in Catalonia known for its jagged rock formations and a Benedictine monastery. You can take the funicular up, then walk back down on a scenic trail with views of the famous peaks. After that you'll reach Barcelona and have time to walk through the Gothic Quarter, stroll down Las Ramblas, and check out the La Boqueria market, which has free time built in for wandering. To finish, you'll return your rental car at the airport to wrap up the trip.
