You'll fly into Lisbon and get settled at your centrally located hotel. The rest of the day is yours to wander around the city at your own pace and get a feel for Portugal's capital.

Lisbon
Start by walking through historic Alfama and check out Castelo de São Jorge with its sweeping views. After that, head to Belém to see the Jerónimos Monastery and Belém Tower, both recognized as World Heritage sites.

Lisbon to Porto
After breakfast, you'll travel by coach to Porto and board your river ship MS Estrela. This evening includes a Welcome Reception with other passengers, followed by a sunset cruise on the Douro River at around 75°F/24°C.

Douro River Cruise
The day focuses on the river itself as you cruise along the Douro with vineyard-covered hills on both sides. You'll try a Portuguese language lesson, then stop in Lamego to visit the Baroque Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies and a well-known local museum. Sample Bola de Lamego before heading to Pinhão for a traditional dinner at a local quinta.

Spain
You'll cruise across into Spain to Vega de Terrón. There's free time to relax, then an optional excursion takes you to Castelo Rodrigo, a small hilltop village with preserved ruins, a castle, and historical architecture. The coach brings you back to your ship by late afternoon.

Salamanca, Spain
After leaving the ship, you'll travel by coach to Salamanca, known for its golden sandstone buildings and historic university. The day includes a flamenco performance and lunch in the city. Later, the coach returns you to Barca d'Alva where your ship waits, and you'll have a traditional Portuguese barbecue dinner on board.

Your final evening includes a Farewell Dinner on board with the people you've met.
