Porto
You'll arrive in Porto and get settled into your accommodation. From there, the rest of the day is yours to explore however you like. Wander through the historic streets, grab a meal somewhere along the riverside, sit in a local café and watch the city go by, or check out the shops for something unique to take home.

Porto to Póvoa de Varzim
Head to Matosinhos where your walking journey starts. You'll follow the Douro River banks with nice views before reaching the Atlantic coast, then walk along wooden boardwalks crossing low dunes. The terrain is flat throughout, covering about 25.4 km over 6 hours.

Povoa de Varzim to Esposende
This leg takes you along the scenic coastline where fresh sea breezes keep you company and the views open up in front of you. As you move forward, the path gradually turns inland and the terrain shifts. You'll walk on paved roads and asphalt sections, cross over the tranquil Cádavo River, and then arrive in Esposende, a welcoming town waiting for you.

Esposende to Viana do Castelo
After breakfast, you'll leave the coastal landscapes and head inland toward the North Coast Natural Park. The Neiva riverbed walk offers serene, refreshing surroundings as you gradually make your way toward Viana do Castelo. The varied natural scenery on this inland stage turns out to be just as nice as what you saw on the coastal paths.

Viana do Castelo to Caminha
This is your final full day in Portugal before crossing into Galicia. You get to choose your route: follow the official Camino inland with yellow arrows, or take the coastal path that's less formally marked but equally rewarding, walking alongside beaches and the sea. Either way, you'll pass through the fishing village of Vila Praia de Âncora with its nice city beach and scenic promenade, then continue to Caminha at the mouth of the Miño River.

Caminha to Oia
After breakfast, head to the ferry and cross the Miño River into Spain and Galicia (about 15 minutes on the water). From there, follow the coastal path with fresh sea views to A Guarda, a fishing town where you can visit Monte de Santa Tegra and see the ancient 4th century BC fortress with its striking views. Later, you'll pass through quiet Portecelo and arrive in Oia to see the impressive Cistercian Monastery of Santa María.

Baiona to Vigo
Set off along the picturesque Vigo estuary heading toward Nigrán, then continue past the inviting beaches of Panxón, Patos, and Samil. The route gives you striking seascapes and fresh ocean breezes, though you should be ready for distance and elevation changes. There's also an alternative inland path via Priegue and Coruxo that leads to a scenic river trail, though the final stretch into Vigo passes through a more industrial area.

Vigo to Redondela
Depart Vigo and follow the Senda da Traída das Augas, weaving through serene forests and tracing the estuary on your way to Redondela where your journey joins the inland Portuguese Way. Near Trasmaño, you have the option to take a 5 km detour to see an impressive waterfall if you want the extra side trip.

Redondela to Pontevedra
Starting from Redondela, head toward Arcade, which is known for its oysters. You'll follow the Vigo estuary through lush forests and pass the historic Ponte Sampaio on your way to Pontevedra. About 19.6 km over 5 hours.

Pontevedra to Caldas de Reis
Today's path is calm and gentle with flatter ground than you've had recently. You'll pass through several villages before arriving in Caldas de Reis, where the famous thermal spas are available if you want to relax. Approximately 21 km over 5 hours.

Caldas de Reis to Padrón
This stage takes you through some of Galicia's most beautiful and varied landscapes including vineyards, grain fields, the Bermaña valley, chestnut forests, and eucalyptus groves. When you reach Padrón, don't skip the chance to try the famous local peppers that the town is known for.

Padrón to Santiago de Compostela
After breakfast, you'll complete the final stage of the Camino. The route crosses the N-550 road several times, follows the railway line toward Iria Flavia, then begins the climb to O Milladoiro where the cathedral towers come into sight. This final stretch brings together the joy of arrival with the bittersweet feeling that this remarkable journey is coming to an end.
