Itinerary
- Day 1
Frankfurt to Bali
You'll depart Frankfurt on a scheduled flight heading to Bali via Doha with Qatar Airways or City Link. The journey takes you across multiple time zones, so settle in for a long travel day.

Arrival in Bali
After landing in Bali, you'll transfer to your hotel and spend the night there. This gives you time to rest up before heading onward to Timor-Leste the next day.

Dili
You arrive in Timor-Leste and check into your hotel. Later in the afternoon, a city tour takes you through Dili where you'll visit the Santa Cruz cemetery, browse Tais market, and head up to Cristo Rei statue to catch the sunset views over the coast.

Dili to Baucau
After breakfast, you drive east along the coast past dramatic cliffs. You'll stop at the Saint Antony statue in Manatutu where there's a local festival happening, then continue through Laleia to see the Catholic church with its European architecture. The drive covers about 120 km and takes 2-3 hours before you reach Pousada Baucau for the night.

Baucau to Tutuala
This morning continues along the eastern coast with several stops ahead. You'll see a natural salty rock lake and Portuguese fort in Lautem, taste local Timorese Arak wine in Tenau, and visit Assalaino village to check out old Timorese tombs. The route then takes you through traditional houses in Iralafai, Lake Ira Lalaro (the country's largest lake within Nino Konis Santana National Park), and rock paintings at Ili kere-kere before finishing in Tutuala. Expect about 200 km and 3-4 hours of travel.

Jaco Island - Baucau
You'll head out early on a boat trip to Jaco Island, where the waters at the meeting point of the Banda and Timor Seas are clear and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. After spending the morning in the water, lunch happens on the beach at Valu Sere. From there, you'll take the boat back to Baucau for the night.

Tutuala to Lospalos
After breakfast, you travel back through Nino-Koni-Santana National Park (a historic site where independence fighters once took shelter) toward Fuiloro. There you'll visit a Catholic vocational school to learn about pig and cattle breeding plus agriculture. From there, it's on to Lospalos where you'll stay overnight in a local guesthouse. The travel is roughly 40 km taking 1-2 hours.

Heading southwest this morning past mountains, you'll visit a secret animism site and traditional houses in Viqueque. You'll see the natural gas fire in Aliembata before spending the night in a former guerrilla fighter's house in Loi-Hunu. This leg covers about 150 km and takes 3-4 hours.

Loi-Hunu to Same
The drive this morning goes via Viqueque toward Luca and Natarbora, passing rice fields and a black sand beach along the way. You'll pass the monument to Don Boaventura, a Timorese hero. By mid-afternoon you'll reach Same for a city tour and overnight at a hotel. The route is roughly 100 km taking 2-3 hours.

Same to Suai
You'll take a short morning tour of the local market and check out the pousada before heading to Hatuudo and continuing to Suai. In the village, you'll learn about local life and history while your guide shows you crocodiles (he's known as 'the crocodile man'). The guesthouse for the night is about 80 km away, roughly 1-2 hours of travel.

Suai to Hatubuiliko
This morning you'll visit the village's Catholic church and the seaside village of Suai Loro where you can learn about rice cultivation and field work. After that, you head to Zumalai and then north into the mountains toward Ainaro. Along the way you'll pass 'Jakarta 2' (a remnant from Indonesian occupation) and see valley views in Flecha before reaching Hatubuiliko for the night. This leg runs about 90 km taking 3-4 hours.

Landmarks Jakarta 2 - Day 12
Dili
You'll start very early around 3:30 AM from the parking lot to climb Mt. Ramelau at 2963 meters. After reaching the summit, you'll wait for sunrise and the clouds to clear before heading back down. The descent takes you via Maubisse and Aileu back to Dili in the afternoon. You'll cover about 110 km by vehicle plus 4-6 hours of walking with roughly 1000 meters of elevation gain.
