- Day 1
Lamezia Terme to Tropea
After arriving at Lamezia Terme, you'll drive along the coast heading to Tropea. The route takes you through some nice coastal scenery before reaching this town that sits on limestone cliffs overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Check in at your hotel and get settled for the week.

Capo Vaticano and Tropea
Start by checking out the Capo Vaticano area, which has clear emerald waters, sandy beaches, and cliffs dropping right down to the sea. From there, head into the old villages in the region to see the history around you. Later you'll make your way to Tropea, and spend time walking through its narrow medieval streets. You'll see shops, historic palaces, and find some nice late medieval architecture tucked into smaller corners away from the main thoroughfare.

Cosenza
This is an optional day with choices. If interested, join a trip to the basilica and monastery of St. Francis of Paola, the patron saint of fishermen and a major pilgrimage destination in southern Italy. See the reliquary chapel, cloister, and places tied to the saint's miracles. Alternatively or afterward, head to Cosenza, known as the cultural center of Calabria. There you can see the Gothic cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, walk the medieval old town, and visit the city theater.

Aeolian Islands
This day is yours to do what you like, or you can join an optional boat trip to the Aeolian or Lipari Islands if weather cooperates. These volcanic islands sit about 30 nautical miles from the coast and rank among the Mediterranean's better spots. The boat visits Lipari and Vulcano while cruising past Stromboli, letting you see the islands' geological past and the natural scenery.

- Day 5
Reggio di Calabria - Scilla - Palmi
Head to Reggio di Calabria, the region's largest city, where you'll visit the cathedral, check out the Archaeological Museum, and walk the Matteotti promenade. From there, drive back along the Costa Viola coastline to Scilla. You'll see the fishing area called Chianalea and visit Castello Ruffo. Continue north to Palmi, where there's a nationally important ethnographic museum to explore before the day ends.

- Day 6
Serra San Bruno and Pizzo
Travel up to 790 meters altitude to reach Serra San Bruno, a quiet town on the wooded Serre plateau. Named after St. Bruno of Cologne, it's connected to the founding of the Carthusian order back in 1091. Later you'll head to Pizzo, a medieval village perched on steep banks overlooking a narrow bay. Visit the Castello Aragonese to learn about this region's role in ending the Napoleonic era, see the unusual cave church of Piedigrotta, and walk around the winding alleyways. The local tartufo ice cream is worth trying.

Zungri
This optional half-day takes you into Calabria's interior to visit Zungri, sitting at 571 meters on the Poro plateau. It's an important agricultural center, and you'll go to a small farm producing onions, n'duja (regional salami), wine, cheese, and vegetables with tastings included. You'll also explore the caves of Zungri and visit the Church of St. Mary. After that, the rest of your time is free to relax, and later there's an opportunity to share stories with other travelers over dinner.
