  2. Day 2

    Rabat - Fez

    Start with a guided tour of Casablanca, seeing Anfa Boulevard and the Hassan II Grand Mosque with its 210-metre minaret. Then head to Rabat to check out the Royal Palace, Mohamed V Mausoleum, and Hassan Tower before continuing to Fez. You'll have a traditional Moroccan dinner with entertainment in the souks this evening.

    Fez

    Spend the morning touring Fez, one of Morocco's four imperial cities. You'll see the royal palace with its bronze doors, the Seven Gates, and the Jewish Quarters of Mellah and Bab Bou Jeloud gate. A walking tour takes you through the Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The afternoon is free, and you'll have dinner at your hotel.

    Volubilis - Meknes - Fez

    Travel to Volubilis to see the Roman ruins on the Jebel Zerhoun plateau, one of Northern Africa's best-preserved archaeological sites. Continue to Meknes and visit the Walls of Bab el Mansour and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, the only mosque in Morocco open to non-Muslims. You'll grab lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Fez.

    Journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains and arrive in Erfoud at the edge of the Sahara Desert. Visit a date farm to learn about local agriculture. There's an optional 4WD excursion available into the Sahara sand dunes for an extra fee.

    Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakesh

    Travel to the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and adobe city on a hillside used as a filming location for Gladiator and other films. Continue to Marrakesh and visit Tawesna Salon de Thé, a cooperative eatery run by local women who preserve regional culinary heritage.

After, return by coach to Barca d'Alva, the last Portuguese village on the Douro, where your ship waits. Back on board, enjoy a traditional Portuguese barbecue dinner.

    This is a wonderful tour on a beautiful ship. The staff are all so accomodating and friendly it’s like you’ve known them for years. The food is excellent as are the accomodations. The sights to be seen are utterly magical and beautiful. Do yourself a favour and take this cruise. It’s wonderful.
