Disappointing, Transit-Heavy Tour – Not Recommended As a very experienced traveler, I booked the "Andalucia, Madrid y Oporto" tour hoping for a well-curated cultural journey for my 16-year-old daughter’s first overseas trip. Unfortunately, this tour felt more like an exercise in transit logistics, and I cannot recommend it. The Positives Accommodations & Meals: The accommodations provided throughout the trip were good. Breakfasts were generally acceptable (Malaga being the best, Madrid being the worst), though the included lunch before the Alhambra was very basic. Initial Tour Leader: Our first tour leader, Valeria, was fantastic—warm, personable, and highly responsive. Unfortunately, she departed the tour halfway through in Madrid. Worthwhile Sights: When we actually had time to explore, stops in Seville, Ronda, the Alhambra, Salamanca, and Porto were definite highlights. The Negatives Excessive Transit & Poor Pacing: We covered over 2,200 km, setting a tiring tone for the trip. The Madrid leg was a complete waste of time; we arrived in the evening and left the next morning, seeing absolutely nothing of the city. Forced Commercial Stops: Several rest breaks felt explicitly designed to service commercial vendor agreements rather than traveler comfort. The most egregious example was in Fátima, where we were trapped for hours at a commercial center for a scheduled lunch and shopping, wasting time that could have been spent exploring the independent options around the basilica. Subpar Local Guidance: For the first five days, we had no dedicated local guide. When a new local guide finally joined us on Day 6 to replace Valeria, the experience plummeted. She was monotone, unengaging, and fixated on unrelated topics like taxes and pickpockets instead of local culture. She also failed to establish a group chat for basic communication and actively complained when participants messaged her individually. Lack of Cohesion: Travelers were frequently shuffled between different groups throughout the journey, completely destroying any sense of group rapport. The Verdict Between the wasted time on the road, forced shopping stops, and lack of engaging leadership in the second half, this felt much more like a rigid transport company than a professional travel provider. It failed to deliver the foundational overseas experience we had hoped for, making the significant financial investment feel unworthwhile.Show more
