Itinerary
- Day 1
Apennine Mountains to Bari
You'll head toward the Adriatic Sea, driving through the Apennine Mountains to reach San Giovanni in Venere Abbey, an 11th-century structure worth the stop. After that, you'll get to Termoli, a coastal city where you can walk through the walled old town, see the 13th-century castle, and check out the Romanesque cathedral. From there, it's on to Bari, a historic port city with narrow streets and churches that really capture southern Italian character.

- Day 2
Lecce - Gallipoli
The route follows the coast to Brindisi, a walled port city where you'll see a notable Roman column and can wander the old quarter. Then you'll head inland to Lecce, often called the 'Florence of the South' because of its baroque architecture and detailed buildings throughout the city. After lunch, you'll drive to Gallipoli, a Greek-founded coastal town on the Ionian Sea with narrow streets, a historic cathedral, castle, and old walls connected to the mainland by a 17th-century bridge. You'll return to Brindisi for the night.

- Day 3
Matera - Naples
You'll start in Alberobello to see the unique cone-shaped trulli houses, a UNESCO World Heritage Site showcasing rural Italian architecture. From there, you'll head to Matera in Basilicata and walk through the Sassi di Matera, an ancient settlement carved into rock with thousands of years of history. After grabbing lunch in Matera, you'll drive through mountain landscapes in Basilicata and Campania, arriving in Naples by evening with free time to get oriented.

- Day 4
Sorrento - Salerno
Following breakfast, you'll travel to Naples port and take a ferry to Capri. Once there, the funicular takes you up to Capri town where you can walk around and take in the views. After lunch, you'll head to Sorrento, a tourist town set at the base of a cliff with free time to explore on your own. Later, you'll continue to the Gulf of Salerno and check in for the night in Salerno.

- Day 5
Naples - Cassino - Rome
Your day begins at Pompeii, where you'll see the remains of the ancient Roman city buried by Mount Vesuvius. Then you'll drive to Naples, one of Italy's oldest cities, with time to explore the UNESCO-listed historic quarter and have lunch there. Next, you'll travel to Cassino to visit the abbey, which was the site of fierce World War II fighting. You'll arrive in Rome by evening.
