Itinerary
- Day 1
Tangier - Tetouan - Rif Mountains - Chefchaouen
Your Moroccan journey kicks off in Tangier with time to take in the coastal scenery where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. Cap Spartel lighthouse and the Caves of Hercules are on your list this morning. From there, it's about a 2-hour drive through the Rif Mountains down to Chefchaouen, the blue city that lives up to its reputation with those distinctive blue-washed buildings covering the streets. Once you arrive, you'll walk through the medina, check out the Kasbah, and browse the local markets. There's good food to find here too, so plan on trying some authentic cooking. If you're interested in hiking, the surrounding mountains offer some nice options. You'll spend the night in Chefchaouen.

- Day 2
Volubilis - Meknes - Fes
After breakfast in Chefchaouen, you have the morning to wander the alleys before heading out. Later you'll travel to Volubilis to see the ancient Roman ruins and UNESCO site with its mosaics and temples. From there, continue to Meknes to visit the Bab Mansour gate and the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail. By evening you'll arrive in Fes and check into a traditional riad for the night, which gives you a real sense of how locals live.

- Day 3
Fez
A local guide takes you through Fez to show you the city's history and what makes it tick. The Royal Palace with its grand gates and gardens comes first, then the Bou Inania Madrasa where you can see the architecture up close. Your guide will tell you about the Kairaouine Mosque, one of the world's oldest universities (note that non-Muslims can't enter the mosque itself, but the guide provides plenty of context). After that, you'll head into the medina souks to look for souvenirs and get a feel for the market energy. The tanneries are a key stop too, where you can watch craftspeople doing traditional leather-making work. Grab lunch at a local restaurant for authentic Moroccan food, then return to your riad for the night.

Fes to Merzouga Desert
Leaving Fes, you drive through Middle Atlas landscapes to Ifrane, which has Swiss-style architecture and parks. You'll pass through cedar forests where Barbary macaques sometimes appear, then stop in Midelt to experience the mountain setting and apple orchards. The route takes you along the Ziz Valley with the river, dramatic cliff faces, and palm groves. By afternoon you reach Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. You'll take a camel ride to watch the sunset from the dunes, then settle into a traditional Berber camp for the night with mint tea, live music, drumming, dancing, and time to look at the stars.

- Day 5
Merzouga Desert to Dades Valley
If you're an early riser, catch the sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at camp, you'll ride your camel back to Merzouga, then travel to Dades Valley. Along the way, stop in Rissani to explore the souk and market, tasting local pastries and medfouna (Berber pizza). Next is Gorge du Todra with its impressive cliffs where you can walk and explore. Then continue to Dades Valley to see the towering cliff faces and the 'Monkey Fingers' rock formations that are great for photos. Spend time hiking through the valley trails.

- Day 6
Dades Valley to Marrakech
From Dades Valley, you drive through mountains to Kalaat Megouna with views of the Dades River along the way. This area is known for rose production (May is bloom season), so you'll explore the town, check local markets, and browse rose product shops. Continue to Skoura to see the palm groves and historic kasbahs, visiting Kasbah Amridil for photos and history. Later you reach Ouarzazate and tour Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, the UNESCO site with its traditional earthen clay village backed by the Atlas Mountains. Then drive through Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass to Marrakech for an afternoon arrival and transfer to your accommodation or airport depending on your flight schedule.
