Chiang Rai
Land at Chiang Rai Airport and get picked up for transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is open for you to wander around the old town from the 13th century or check out the night bazaar on your own.

- Day 2
Chiang Rai - Golden Triangle
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll visit King Mangrai's monument and the Hilltribe Museum to learn about local hill tribes. Then head out to remote Yao and Akha villages, stop in Mae Sai border town, and continue to the Golden Triangle where Thailand, Laos and Myanmar meet. Grab lunch and climb up to the hilltop Wat Phra That Chom Kitti before heading back to Chiang Rai with free time in the evening.

Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai
Start with breakfast and travel to Chiang Mai, stopping at Wat Rong Khun, the white temple built in the 1990s. Once in Chiang Mai, walk up the 309-step staircase (or take the cable car) to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep for city views from the mountain. Later you'll board a boat on the River Ping, stop at a farm for khao soi noodle curry and see dance performances, then walk through the flower and produce market.

Chiang Mai
Following breakfast, head to Elephant Jungle Sanctuary for hands-on elephant care focused on conservation. In the afternoon, wander through Chiang Mai's old town with its defensive walls and moat. You'll visit Wat Suan Dok with its 48-metre Sri Lankan-style chedi, then check out Wat Phra Sing and Wat Chedi Luang from the 14th century in the city center.

- Day 5
Chiang Mai - Lamphun - Lampang - Sukhothai
Have breakfast and travel to Lamphun to see the golden Wat Phra That Hariphunchai temple with roots going back to the Mon Kingdom in the eighth century. From there, continue to Lampang for Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. After lunch, drive through scenic landscapes to Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring ruins from Thailand's first capital.

Sukhothai - Uthai Thani - Ayutthaya
Start early joining locals during the Buddhist monks' morning alms round. Then travel south with a lunch break in Chai Nat, following routes connected to Siam's historical expansion. Arriving in Ayutthaya, the former capital, you'll see Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the adjacent Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit with its golden Buddha, then explore the haunting ruins of Wat Phra Mahathat where a Buddha statue sits engulfed by tree roots.

You'll visit the war cemetery where thousands of soldiers are buried and the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre to learn about the harsh conditions Allied POWs and Thai workers faced building the WWII 'Death Railway Bridge'. The rest of the day is free.

Kanchanaburi to Bangkok
Following breakfast, drive through countryside to Nakhon Pathom to visit the temple with the 127-metre-high Phra Pathommachedi stupa, the tallest one of its type in the world. Then head to Damnoen Saduak and its vibrant floating markets where boats sell fresh fruit, vegetables and local food. From there, get transferred to your Bangkok hotel.
