Itinerary
- Day 1
Marrakech to Merzouga
You'll leave Marrakech heading south through the High Atlas Mountains, passing over Tizi n'Tichka Pass with some really dramatic views along the way. The first major stop is Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO kasbah that's worth exploring for an hour or so to see the traditional clay architecture. From there, you'll drive through Skoura Palmeraie and the Dades Gorges, which are perfect for photos and getting a feel for the landscape. After pushing deeper into the south, you'll pass through several small villages before reaching Merzouga by late afternoon. Once you arrive, it's time for the highlight - an off-road drive into the Erg Chebbi dunes followed by a camel ride at sunset. You'll stay at a desert camp that evening, and later there's a Berber folklore celebration with traditional music, dancing, and dinner to ring in New Year's Eve.

Merzouga
Start this morning early to catch the sunrise from the top of Erg Chebbi dunes, then come back down for a Berber breakfast made locally using traditional methods. The rest of the day is flexible - you can explore the villages around the dunes, try sandboarding if you're interested, or take a longer camel trek through the desert. If you prefer something quieter, you can spend time relaxing in front of your tent with a book or just taking in the peace and quiet. Don't skip the sunset - it's worth being outside to watch it. Later in the evening, join the New Year countdown celebration to welcome the new year right here in the desert, and the party continues well into the night.
