Itinerary
- Day 1
Ulaanbaatar
You'll land in Ulaanbaatar and head to your hotel to settle in. Later in the afternoon, start exploring the city by checking out Gandan Monastery, which is one of Mongolia's most intact temples. From there, move on to the National Museum where you can learn about the country's history and what shaped its geography. This evening you'll catch a traditional folk show and then have dinner at a local restaurant.

- Day 2
Ulaanbaatar to Terelj National Park
After leaving Ulaanbaatar, head east toward the steppe and spend your day at the 13th Century Camp. You'll drive around to different areas that show what medieval Mongolian life was actually like, stopping to see blacksmiths, teachers, herders, shamans, and areas where kings lived. Later you'll continue driving to Terelj National Park and overnight at a ger camp there.

- Day 3
Terelj National Park
Your day is spent fully in Terelj National Park exploring the forested mountains at 1,600 metres elevation. You can take a horse ride through the alpine scenery and see rock formations like Turtle Rock and Praying Lama Rock. If you'd rather not ride, cycling and kayaking are both available instead.

- Day 4
Terelj National Park to Hustai National Park
Leave Terelj and head to the Genghis Khan statue on the Tuul River banks, which stands over 40 metres high and you can see it from miles away. There's an option to climb it for views across the countryside. After that, continue on to Hustai National Park where you'll do an early evening drive to look for rare Przewalski horses in their natural setting.

- Day 5
Hustai National Park to Kharkhorin
Start early with a horse ride in Hustai, then drive to Kharkhorin, the former capital of the Mongol Empire. You'll visit Erdene Zuu monastery, built in the 16th century using stones from the old city and it's recognized as one of the country's earliest surviving Buddhist monasteries. The museum there has lots of information about the region's history.

Kharkhorin to Orkhon Valley
Morning brings you back to Erdene Zuu to watch the mid-morning ceremony and hear chanting monks. After that, you'll drive into central Mongolia's valleys passing herds of goats, sheep, and horses grazing across grasslands. Your destination is the Orkhon Valley, a sacred landscape that once served as the steppes' seat of imperial power.

Orkhon Valley
Explore the Orkhon River valley, which is a UNESCO-listed cultural landscape. You'll have a picnic lunch with you and then paddle down the river in kayaks, going through small canyons and quiet countryside that the Orkhon River flows through.

Orkhon Valley
Drive out to Orkhon Khurkhree Waterfall and check out the area around it. The waterfall is really spectacular especially after heavy rains in late July and August. There's a short walk downstream that takes you to a 22-metre-deep gorge. The land around it works great for horse riding, and you'll take a swim in natural pools before heading back to your ger camp.

Orkhon Valley to Khogno Khan
Start by visiting Tovkhon Khiid monastery, which involves a one-hour walk through pine forests to get there. The tiny monastery has great views. Then drive through valleys and over high mountain passes to reach Khogno Khan National Park, which has historical sites, wildlife, and really nice scenery. You'll stay at a traditional ger camp with views out over the steppe.

Khogno Khan
Spend your day in Khogno Khan National Park, which covers 47,000 hectares and has different plants and animals including ibex, red deer, and wolves. You can walk around the rocky hills, check out the sand dunes, visit nomadic herders living in the area, and take a camel ride through the dunes.

Khogno Khan National Park

Khogno Khan to Ulaanbaatar
Start the drive back to Ulaanbaatar early, and you'll arrive in the afternoon. After checking in, spend your free time however works best for you. Some people head to the monasteries or museums they might've missed earlier. Others use the time to pick up last-minute souvenirs or gifts before your final dinner in the city.
