You'll arrive at Madrid airport and get transferred to your hotel, leaving the rest of the day open for wandering around this vibrant capital. Later in the evening, there's an illuminated drive through the old city streets that ends at Plaza Mayor, where you can grab tapas and check out the local taverns.

Segovia - Avila - Salamanca
Following buffet breakfast, head into old Castile to see the medieval city of Segovia and its 2,000-year-old Roman aqueduct plus the impressive Alcazar Castle. There's a stop in Avila to walk through the perfectly preserved 11th-century city walls, then you'll continue to Salamanca for an afternoon city tour of this charming university town.

You'll depart after breakfast toward the Rias Baixas region heading into Portugal. Stop in Viana do Castelo at the mouth of the Lima River to see its historic center and castle, then continue on to Porto, the main city in Portugal's Douro region.
