Porto to Vidago
Your guide picks you up at Porto airport and drives you to Vidago, a town known for its mineral waters. You'll be staying at the historic Vidago Palace, a 20th-century hotel that once hosted Portuguese royalty. It's about an hour's drive from the airport, so you'll have time to settle in and get oriented before dinner.

Vidago to Vila Real
Today you'll cycle through northern Portugal's countryside on routes that follow an old railroad line. The ride takes you past abandoned train stations and alongside the Corgo River, with rolling hills and rural scenery the whole way. By evening you'll reach a country estate near Vila Real where you're staying the night. It's a moderate cycling day, roughly 40-50km depending on your route.

Vila Real to Vilarinho de São Romão
You'll cycle through the Douro Mountains today, passing through small villages and stopping at several historic sites along the way. The route includes the Bronze Age Mamoa de Madorras, Capela da Nossa Senhora da Azinheira, and Miguel Torga's birthplace. Then you'll roll through Sabrosa, birthplace of explorer Ferdinand Magellan, before heading to your accommodation. Expect more climbing today than yesterday.

Vilarinho de São Romão to Pinhão
This cycling day takes you downhill through the Douro wine region with vineyards on both sides and views of the river below. You'll pass through villages like Covas do Douro where locals still live traditionally. By afternoon you'll reach Pinhão, where the historic train station is right in town. The descent makes this a nice change of pace after the mountain climbing.

Pinhão
Spend today exploring around Pinhão in the UNESCO wine region. You have two route options with different difficulty levels, so you can pick based on how you're feeling. Both pass through local wineries and villages, including Favaios which is famous for its Moscatel wine and has some archaeological sites worth checking out. This gives you a chance to really get to know the area.

Pinhão to Peso da Régua
You'll cycle or take a scenic train from Pinhão to Covelinhas, then follow panoramic routes along the river through the Corgo Valley. Routes vary in difficulty, so pick what works for you. After exploring, you'll descend to Peso da Régua where you'll visit the Douro Museum. Your accommodation is at a local winery where you'll have wine tasting in the evening. It's a nice way to connect with the region's wine culture.

Peso da Régua to Lamego
Your last cycling day offers two options: follow the Douro River on paved roads or climb inland toward Lamego. Either way, you'll see the Capela de São Pedro de Balsemão, Europe's second oldest chapel, and the Cathedral of Nossa Senhora da Assunção. The landscapes keep showing off vineyards and river views. It's a reflective day to soak in everything you've seen this week.

Lamego to Porto
Time to head back to Porto airport for your departure. If you want to add something special at the end, there's an option to take a scenic river cruise before heading to the airport, which gives you one more look at the Douro from the water. Otherwise, it's a straight transfer back to Porto to catch your flight.
