Itinerary
- Day 1
Madeira
You'll arrive in Madeira and get settled at Quinta do Furão. An ASI representative meets you and handles the transfer from the airport. The rest of the day is yours to do as you like—take a walk around the grounds, soak in the Atlantic views, or swim in the pool. Your hiking guide will find you tomorrow morning at 8:30 AM, so tonight's really just about getting acclimated.

- Day 2
Porto da Cruz
Meet your hiking guide at 8:30 AM in the hotel lobby and drive south toward Machico. The first hike takes you on a gentle levada path that winds through vegetable gardens before reaching Boca do Risco, where you can see Porto Santo island in the distance. From there, follow a narrow coastal path with some elevation changes down to Porto da Cruz. Grab lunch featuring local specialties, then head back to the quinta by early afternoon.

- Day 3
Folhadal Valley
Drive up to Encumeada Pass, the high point that separates Madeira's western and eastern halves. You'll pass through a short mountain tunnel before entering the remote Folhadal valley. The hike follows a moss-covered levada path surrounded by thick green vegetation, and you'll spot massive rock formations rising from the forest. Stop at a traditional restaurant for lunch where they serve Madeiran cuisine.

- Day 4
Rabaçal
Start on the Paul da Serra plateau and hike down a narrow path into evergreen forest. You'll reach Risco waterfall and then continue to the 25 springs, a remarkable spot with dozens of small waterfalls cascading into pools with emerald water. The route includes one of those classic levada tunnels where the weather can shift suddenly. After finishing the hike, drive to a local restaurant for lunch.

- Day 5
São Lourenço Peninsula
Head to Baía d'Abra and hike across the São Lourenço peninsula on the island's eastern tip. The landscape here is quite different—rocky, sparse vegetation, and dramatic. You'll see deep blue ocean on both sides with reddish-tinted rocks creating an unusual color contrast. Stop for lunch that includes fresh-caught fish and island dishes before returning to the quinta.

- Day 6
Pico Ruivo
This is a challenging day where you'll climb to Madeira's highest point. Starting from Pico do Arieiro, you'll tackle countless steps and pass through rock tunnels along a narrow ridge leading to Pico Ruivo at 1,862 meters. On one side drops the deep Curral das Freiras valley, and on the other stretch green valleys with jagged rock formations. The ridge walk offers incredible views and serves as one of the week's highlights. You'll have refreshments and lunch to recover afterward.

- Day 7
Curral das Freiras
Leave early for Boca da Corrida viewing platform at 1,220 meters with commanding views of the mountain massif and Pico Grande. Hike along a well-maintained panoramic trail toward Pico Grande's base. An old chestnut tree-lined path then descends into the secluded Curral das Freiras valley. Once in the village, visit Senhor Gabriel's restaurant to try regional chestnut dishes—a memorable experience.
