We had a wonderful time although it poured rain for 5 days. However after Monteverde there was no need to go all the way back to San Jose. We could have stayed in Atenis or similar place. We wasted a lot of holiday time in heavy traffic. Only to turn around early in the morning to get to the water, then back to San Jose again only to travel out early in the morning to the airport !!! Staying in a place like Atenis would have been more sensible and slot less travel. All our places to stay were great. Rides were comfortable and on time. Thank you for your service.Show more

We were picked up at 5:20 AM and dropped off at our hotel at 10:15 PM, and we had no dinner. We couldn’t walk to a restaurant because Auténtico Hotel is not in a safe area. The boat is a party boat with loud club music the entire way to the island and the entire way back. It’s a boat for young people who don’t have children. Also, when I called to set up the tour, I specifically asked for one room with two beds. Only 2 out of 4 of our hotels had two beds for us.Show more

The zipline tour was very challenging (12 stations) and it was carried out in pouring rain. I could hardly enjoy the view through my glasses and was soaked to the bone afterwards. In San Antoinio we had a building site right next to our room. After complaining, we were immediately given another room on a different floor. The tour was well organized, and the tour guides were great, I greatly appreciated the strategic placement of your representatives at the terminal. They were a great help with the process of getting through customs, claiming our bags and meeting the bus to the hotel. All hotel accommodations were excellent. Your selection of the Tortuga Lodge was an excellent choice. In fact, the stay there and the river tour and nature hike were the best part of the trip. Your guide there was excellent and quite knowledgeable in the flora and fauna, as well as the history of the nation. The Arenal volcano was impressive and the boat trip across the lake was great scenery. The road from the lake to Monte Verde was rough and quite grueling - a good reminder of what travel there in the country would have been like in the 30's and 40's. The high country there in Monte Verde was a welcome change from the low country we had traveled through in the early part of the trip. The tour of Tortuga Island on the last day was great and relaxing way to end the trip. I have two suggestions that could have improved the experience: (1) When it is necessary for a change of vehicles and tour guides during the trip and the travelers need to wait for a long period of time it would be helpful if you called them to assure them that they had not been abandoned and (2) there were some instances of overemphasis of tipping: the Tortuga Island tour comes to mind. It might be helpful if you reminded the contracted tour guides to tone down this emphasis on tipping. All in all, it was wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in traveling to the area.Show more

Payment information
- For any tour departing before May 13th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after May 13th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Destination Services Costa Rica. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
- Some departure dates and prices may vary and Destination Services Costa Rica will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
- The following cards are accepted for "Destination Services Costa Rica" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
