Can a 10-day tour be adjusted to 9 days, adapting it to visit San José, Tortuguero, Monteverde and the beaches of Manuel Antonio?

We offer Treasures of Costa Rica program (San José, Arenal, Monteverde, Manuel Antonio) and Supersaver | Costa Rica Essentials Plus (8 Days) program (San José, Tortuguero, Arenal, Monteverde) available in Standard, Superior, and Deluxe categories.

We have about 7-10 days and would be flying into/from Liberia airport. We are thinking we need to limit our visit to Guanacaste and the Nicoya Peninsula. We have already visited various beaches north of Tamarindo. Our dates are somewhat flexible at this time, as we have not yet secured airfare. Awaiting recommendations for the best dates to book, as the purpose of the trip would be to witness and/or volunteer with turtle nesting/hatching/releasing. Other interests: Other turtle related sites, refuges. Scenic sites and beautiful beaches, Nature (parks/trails/waterfalls), Whale watching, Animal sanctuaries (visit and/or volunteer), Canopy tours, Kayaking, Bioluminescent experiences, Local farm and/or market experiences. We are interested in staying in accommodation with kitchens. Location is very important (beach/jungle experience) as it can immerse guests further into nature. Could you suggest a driving itinerary?

What a wonderful approach for a second trip to Costa Rica, given your previous experience traveling independently, your flexibility, and your interest in turtles, peaceful nature, and authentic experiences, Guanacaste and the Nicoya Peninsula are an excellent choice, especially at the beginning of September. We cannot assist with Airbnb reservations, but we can help with everything else! The best option is to rent a 4x4 vehicle. Hotels in Guachipelin for adventure, then Samara, Santa Teresa, and Ostional to finish.

Yes, you can book activities in advance for both destinations. We can also arrange a room with two beds. Please note that this is an individual package; however, activities and transportation will be shared with other participants.

If your departure is on the Day 9, unfortunately, joining the Isla Tortuga adventure will not be feasible for logistic reasons.

I went ahead and the client booked the Costa Rica highlights package, which does end in Manual Antonio. That is the package that I was looking for the extra night.

Regarding the package you are currently reviewing, please note that Manuel Antonio is not included. If you would like to visit this destination, I recommend looking into the "Essential Costa Rica with Manuel Antonio" package, which does include 2 nights in Manuel Antonio. However, since this is during the end-of-year holiday season, hotels in Manuel Antonio require a minimum stay of 3 nights, so adjustments would need to be made if you choose this option.

Would it cost to add an additional hotel night for the triple occupancy room. Would you still be able to provide transportation to the hotel from the airport if we were to fly in one day earlier.

We need to add 2 nights to our hotel stay because we are flying in to San Jose the evening of February 10 and the first day of our tour is February 12. Can you please provide the additional cost for doing this?

We had a wonderful time although it poured rain for 5 days. However after Monteverde there was no need to go all the way back to San Jose. We could have stayed in Atenis or similar place. We wasted a lot of holiday time in heavy traffic. Only to turn around early in the morning to get to the water, then back to San Jose again only to travel out early in the morning to the airport !!! Staying in a place like Atenis would have been more sensible and slot less travel. All our places to stay were great. Rides were comfortable and on time. Thank you for your service.Show more

The transportation was spot on and connections were well planned! The towns we stayed in were beautiful with plenty of activities to enjoy! The last day on the catamaran was too long of a day. We were picked up at 5:20 AM and dropped off at our hotel at 10:15 PM, and we had no dinner. We couldn’t walk to a restaurant because Auténtico Hotel is not in a safe area. The boat is a party boat with loud club music the entire way to the island and the entire way back. It’s a boat for young people who don’t have children. Also, when I called to set up the tour, I specifically asked for one room with two beds. Only 2 out of 4 of our hotels had two beds for us.Show more

In San Antoinio we had a building site right next to our room. After complaining, we were immediately given another room on a different floor. The tour was well organized, and the tour guides were great, I greatly appreciated the strategic placement of your representatives at the terminal. They were a great help with the process of getting through customs, claiming our bags and meeting the bus to the hotel. All hotel accommodations were excellent. Your selection of the Tortuga Lodge was an excellent choice. In fact, the stay there and the river tour and nature hike were the best part of the trip. Your guide there was excellent and quite knowledgeable in the flora and fauna, as well as the history of the nation. The Arenal volcano was impressive and the boat trip across the lake was great scenery. The road from the lake to Monte Verde was rough and quite grueling - a good reminder of what travel there in the country would have been like in the 30's and 40's. The high country there in Monte Verde was a welcome change from the low country we had traveled through in the early part of the trip. The tour of Tortuga Island on the last day was great and relaxing way to end the trip. I have two suggestions that could have improved the experience: (1) When it is necessary for a change of vehicles and tour guides during the trip and the travelers need to wait for a long period of time it would be helpful if you called them to assure them that they had not been abandoned and (2) there were some instances of overemphasis of tipping: the Tortuga Island tour comes to mind. It might be helpful if you reminded the contracted tour guides to tone down this emphasis on tipping. All in all, it was wonderful experience and I would recommend it to anyone interested in traveling to the area.Show more

If you would like to visit this destination, I recommend looking into the "Essential Costa Rica with Manuel Antonio" package, which does include 2 nights in Manuel Antonio. However, since this is during the end-of-year holiday season, hotels in Manuel Antonio require a minimum stay of 3 nights, so adjustments would need to be made if you choose this option.

For tours departing after November 18th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Destination Services Costa Rica. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
