Kunming
Your driver will meet you when you arrive in Kunming by bullet train or flight, then take you to your hotel. It's a straightforward transfer to get settled in for the trip ahead.

Kunming to Dongchuan Red Land
Pick up happens at 8:30 am for the drive to Dongchuan Red Land, which takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. You'll see the red earth fields that photographers call 'God's palette'. Start at Music Hollow in the afternoon to position yourself for sunset shots, then move to Luoxianggou Valley by evening where traditional villages surround the terrain. The golden light across the landscape makes for your best photography of the day.

Dongchuan Red Land to Kunming
Wake at 5:00 am and leave by 5:30 to catch sunrise at Damakan within 30 minutes. The red fields framed by mountains are particularly striking in early light. After sunrise, head to Jinxiuyuan to see rolling red hills and traditional villages. Lunch comes before the 3 to 3.5 hour drive back to Kunming in the late afternoon.

Kunming - Stone Forest - Birds and Flower Market to Dali
Meet your guide at the hotel for an 85km drive to the Stone Forest. In the afternoon, return to Kunming and check out the Birds and Flowers Market, then walk around Green Lake. Later, catch the evening bullet train to Dali where your local guide and driver transfer you to your hotel.

Dali

After that, head to Haishe Park for views of Erhai Lake. Finish the day at Zhoucheng Village where you can see the Tie-Dyeing workshop process before returning to your hotel.

Dali to Lijiang
The 3 hour drive to Lijiang brings you to Black Dragon Pool and the Dongba Culture Museum for your first stops. You'll have free time during the day to wander around Lijiang Old Town on your own. At 5:00 pm, meet your guide at the Big Waterwheel spot for transfer to your hotel.

Lijiang - Tiger Leaping Gorge to Shangri-La
Drive to Qiaotou Town to view the First Bend of Yangtze River from a distance, then stop briefly at Upper Tiger Leaping Gorge for photos. The main activity is a 3 hour hike through Middle Tiger Leaping Gorge starting at the '14km' mark and finishing at Tina's Guesthouse. Later, continue driving to Shangri-La where you'll stroll around Dukezong Ancient Town and walk up Guishan Hill to see the Grand Prayer Wheel and views of the city.
