  1. Day 1

    Villach

    You'll arrive in Villach, which sits right in the middle of Carinthia's lake district. This area has been drawing people for centuries because of the crystal-clear lakes and thermal baths that go all the way back to Roman times. After checking into your hotel, you'll have time to settle in and get your bearings for the week ahead.

  2. Day 2

    Lake Ossiach Loop

    Today starts with a cycling tour that follows the Seebach stream, giving you views of the Landskron castle ruin along the way. You'll ride around Lake Ossiach, which is known for having excellent drinking water quality and summer temperatures reaching up to 27°C/81°F. The route takes you through Ossiach to see the 11th-century monastery and its late baroque church, then continues through Steindorf and Bodensdorf before heading back to Villach on this scenic loop.

    Villach to Klagenfurt via Wörthersee

    Cycling east today along the Drau cycle path takes you through farmland to Velden on Lake Wörthersee. From there you'll head through rolling hills and into the Keutschach valley, where four lakes sit among wooded mountains. The route passes Lake Hafnersee, Lake Keutschacher See, Lake Bassgeigensee, and Lake Rauschelesee, then follows the Lend canal to reach Klagenfurt, the state capital.

    Lake Klopeiner See

    In Klagenfurt, you'll wander through the old town that Italian architects built in the 16th and 17th centuries. The winding alleyways, courtyard arcades, churches, and town houses show why it earned the nickname 'Rose of Lake Wörthersee.' After exploring the center, you'll cycle along the Glan river through villages and forests to reach the Völkermarkter reservoir, then continue to Lake Klopeiner See, the warmest lake in the region with wooded shores and the Karawanken mountains visible in the distance.

  5. Day 5

    Lake Klopeiner See to Hochosterwitz

    Starting from Lake Klopeiner See, you'll cycle to the Völkermarkter reservoir and then follow the Glan-Gurk cycle path around Völkermarkt, the former duke city. The route takes you through typical Carinthian villages before reaching Hochosterwitz castle, an impressive fortress sitting 150 meters high on a chalk rock. The surrounding area has numerous castles and palaces showing the region's past importance as a state capital.

  6. Day 6

    Hochosterwitz to Villach via Ossiach

    You'll start in St. Veit, the former seat of Carinthian bishops, where you can see the medieval main square, Renaissance houses, arcade courtyards, Herzogsburg castle, and historic monuments. From there, cycling west along the Glan river takes you through Glanegg and past castle ruins, then through Feldkirchen surrounded by wooded hills and palaces. The route brings you back to Lake Ossiach and then returns to Villach to complete the day.

    Lake Faak

    Today you'll cycle past Villach's thermal spa and head east at the foot of the Karawanken mountains to reach Lake Faak, which has striking turquoise water. The Mittagskogel peak rises dramatically behind it, and the lake is surrounded by undeveloped meadows and green woods with a wooded island in the middle. After a break or lunch at the lakeside, you'll climb a small ridge and descend to the Drau river, then return to Villach on the flat, well-developed cycle path.

    Everything was so well organised we could just relax and ride the bikes. We hired bikes and they were in great condition and gave us no problems- I would definitely recommend this holiday. The accomodation was excellent too.
