Itinerary
- Day 1
Chiang Mai
You'll arrive at Chiang Mai Airport and get picked up for a transfer to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to do as you please. You might relax at the hotel or head into the old town to walk around the historic walls and moat. The streets have plenty of artisan shops and food stalls worth checking out, and if you're up for it, the night market is great for local handicrafts and snacks.

Chiang Mai
After breakfast, you'll do a half-day city tour starting with a drive up the winding hill road to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, the major 600-year-old temple sitting at 3,500 feet. Climbing the 306 Naga staircase steps gives you panoramic views across the city. Back in town, you'll see Wat Suan Dok with its flower garden and large central Stupa, then check out Wat Chedi Luang with its impressive Chedi dating back to 1411.

Lamphun - Lampang - Sukhothai
You'll have breakfast and then head to Lamphun to visit Wat Phra That Hariphunchai, a golden temple complex with roots going back to the Mon Kingdom in the eighth century. From there it's on to Lampang and the historic Wat Phra That Lampang Luang. After lunch, you'll drive through scenic countryside toward Sukhothai Historical Park, arriving in the late afternoon. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has the ruins of ancient Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand.

Uthai Thani - Ayutthaya
Your morning starts spiritually by joining locals during the Buddhist monks' alms round. After that, you'll drive south with a lunch stop in Chai Nat. The route south through Uthai Thani to Ayutthaya mirrors how Siam expanded historically. In Ayutthaya, the former capital, you'll explore the Ayutthaya Historical Park to see Wat Phra Si Sanphet and the Viharn Phra Mongkol Bophit with its golden Buddha. You'll also see the ruins of Wat Phra Mahathat with that famous Buddha statue the tree roots have grown around.

Kanchanaburi
Breakfast comes first, then you'll drive through open farmland to reach Kanchanaburi, a quiet town where the Kwai Noi and Kwai Yai rivers meet. You'll visit World War II sites here, including the war cemetery where thousands of soldiers are buried and the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre, which documents the harsh conditions Allied POWs and Thai laborers faced building the military supply railway. Lunch is included, and then the afternoon and evening are free for you to rest or explore on your own.

- Day 6
Nakhon Pathom - Damnoen Saduak - Bangkok
You'll leave Kanchanaburi after breakfast and drive toward Nakhon Pathom to visit the temple home to the Phra Pathommachedi stupa, a 127-meter-high structure that's the tallest of its kind anywhere. Next is Damnoen Saduak and its colorful floating markets, where you'll see boats loaded with fresh fruit, vegetables, and local food being sold. It's lively and chaotic in the best way. From there you continue to Bangkok and check in at your hotel in the city.

Bangkok
You'll have a rich breakfast and then spend the day touring three major Bangkok temples. The Royal Grand Palace is an architectural masterpiece that was used as a royal residence from the 18th century into the mid-20th century. Right next to it sits Wat Pho, Bangkok's oldest temple, known for its enormous golden reclining Buddha and its traditional Thai massage school. You'll also see Wat Traimit with its massive 5.5-tonne Golden Buddha. Later, you have the evening free to get a traditional massage, try some local food, or catch the sunset from a rooftop bar.
