Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive at Paro International Airport and drive through scenic landscapes heading toward Thimphu. The route takes you through beautiful countryside as you make your way to the capital. Once there, you'll check out three important landmarks starting with Simtokha Dzong, which dates back to 1629 and was Bhutan's first dzong. After that, head to the Memorial Chorten and then to Tashichho Dzong fortress, an impressive structure that dominates the city. By evening, you'll check into your hotel after finishing your sightseeing.

- Day 2
Thimphu
Start this morning at the National Library of Bhutan to see its collection of precious texts and manuscripts. From there, walk through the Folk Heritage Museum, which is set in a traditional three-story building and shows you details about Bhutanese material culture and daily life. Next, you'll head to the National Institute of Traditional Medicine to learn how local healing practices work. If you have time left in the afternoon, you can also stop by the Takin Sanctuary to see these unique animals.

- Day 3
Thimphu to Punakha
Drive from Thimphu toward Punakha, and make sure to stop at Dochula Pass where you'll find 360-degree views of the Himalayan range. The landscape here is really something. After taking in those views, head to Chimi Lhakhang, a monastery dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kinley. Later in the day, arrive at Punakha Dzong, a six-story fortress that's one of Bhutan's most important structures. You'll check into your hotel in Punakha after settling in.

- Day 4
Punakha
Start with a short drive north of Punakha, then begin hiking to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. The trail takes about an hour and winds through pine forests as it climbs toward the chorten. During the hike you'll get panoramic views of Punakha Valley and the Mo Chhu River below. The chorten itself was built to promote peace and harmony, and reaching it gives you both a sense of accomplishment and a spiritual experience at that location.

Punakha to Paro
Drive to Paro and visit Paro Dzong, also called Ringpung Dzong, which serves as the administrative center of the Paro district and is an architectural highlight of the region. After that, head to the National Museum of Bhutan, which is housed in Ta-dzong, an ancient watchtower that was converted into a museum back in 1968. The circular building design is distinctive. You'll check into your hotel in Paro once you finish your visits for the day.

Paro
This morning, start at Drukgyel Dzong, one of Bhutan's four principal defense fortresses built back in 1649. Later, head to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, constructed in the 7th century. Then tackle the hike to Taktsang Monastery, which sits dramatically at 3,000 meters and is one of Bhutan's most important Buddhist sites. The trek is moderate and the views as you approach the monastery are worth the effort. Return to your hotel afterward to rest.

Paro Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, you'll transfer to Paro International Airport for your onward flight. You'll be dropped off at the airport or a location of your choice, marking the end of your time in Bhutan.
