Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll land at Paro International Airport and meet your representative who drives you to Thimphu on a scenic one-hour route. Along the way, you'll stop at Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan's first dzong dating back to 1629, then see the golden-spired Memorial Chorten built to honor the third king. The Wang Chhu River fortress of Tashichho Dzong comes next before heading to your hotel for the night.

- Day 2
Thimphu
After breakfast, you'll start at the National Library, established in 1967 and containing precious texts and manuscripts. From there, the Folk Heritage Museum in its traditional three-story building shows you Bhutanese material culture and traditional lifestyles. Next is the National Institute of Traditional Medicine founded in 1988, where you'll see how traditional and allopathic healing practices work together. If there's time, you can visit the Takin Sanctuary.

- Day 3
Thimphu to Punakha
You'll drive toward Punakha after breakfast, stopping at Dochula Pass for views of the Himalayan mountain range stretching in all directions. The route continues to Chimi Lhakhang, a monastery honoring Lama Drukpa Kinley and his unconventional Buddhist teachings. Once in Punakha, you'll visit the six-story Punakha Dzong fortress set against dramatic mountains, then check in to your hotel for the night.

- Day 4
Punakha
After breakfast, you'll head north of Punakha to begin a one-hour hike to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. The trail winds through pine forests with panoramic views of Punakha Valley throughout. When you reach the chorten, built to promote peace and stability, you'll find it offers great views of the Mo Chhu River and the surrounding peaks.

- Day 5
Punakha to Paro
You'll drive to Paro after breakfast and visit Paro Dzong, also called Ringpung Dzong (meaning 'fortress on a heap of jewels'), which serves as the administrative center of the district. From there, you'll check out the National Museum of Bhutan, housed in the circular Ta-dzong, an ancient watchtower converted to a museum in 1968. After that, you'll settle into your hotel in Paro for the night.

- Day 6
Paro
Your day in Paro starts with breakfast and then moves to Drukgyel Dzong, one of Bhutan's four principal defense fortresses built in 1649. You'll walk to Kyichu Lhakhang next, one of the oldest temples dating to the 7th century and part of a set of 108 temples built by Tibetan emperor Songtsen Gampo. The day ends at Taktsang Monastery perched on a cliff at 3,000 meters (9,843 feet), one of Bhutan's most famous Buddhist sites, before returning to your hotel.
