  The tour left little down time as we were going from 9am-5pm daily. There was too much emphasis on Buddhist temples. Avoid the train ride-nothing to see. Drive with your guide instead. Ours was not till 1pm and left no time to enjoy Ella. We loved our guide Cammie and our superior hotels. Just missed having more time to enjoy them. Also note that you will be required to pay $250-300 for activities listed in the itinerary. We had no idea until we received our final documents. Overall an ok tour and the people of Sri Lanka could not be nicer!Show more

  Itinerary was very good, although the major delay in obtaining our train tickets and departure meant that we didn't see much sights on that one day. Our guide was earnest and hardworking, although his limited command of English made communication more challenging both ways. The food and experiences were generally acceptable, although the hefty "tourist mark-up" in prices left a bit of a sour taste. We lost a bit of our cash to theft (probably by hotel staff doing room service), but that is not the operator's fault.Show more

  This trip was everything it said it would be…and more! Very easy to communicate with the company in planning and making slight changes to personalize it, an incredible country and experience. However, our guide, Nalin, was the BEST. He was friendly, knowledgeable, patient, kind, connected at any time, adapted each day depending on many factors and looked after us so well. It was due to him that our holiday was as good as it was. His driving and focus was superb and we felt safe, extremely well looked-after and learned so much. Hope we can come back and can’t recommend Nalin and this tour enough!Show more

  I did a 10 day private tour at the end of November. My guide was Janaka Priyadarshana, and he went above and beyond to make sure I had a great visit to his country. Planning and itinerary I initially wanted to join an existing tour, but they didn’t have any group ones that matched my timing. Instead I did a private tour. I liked that I was able to build my own itinerary to visit the places that mattered most to me. BH Lanka was flexible and quickly responded to my requests during the planning phase. Once I was in Sri Lanka, I appreciated the daily flexibility to move things around based on how I was feeling and the weather. Janaka also did a great job making recommendations on my changes to the plan. Tour I had a great tour!! The country is as beautiful as people claim, and the locals are incredibly helpful. As mentioned, I planned my own itinerary, so it was busy and jam packed. But I only had 10 days and wanted to make the most of my time. The only thing I would have changed is not doing 3 star hotels and upgrading to 4 or 5 star hotels. Coming from the US, I think some of the 3 star hotels were not what I expected for 3 stars. (For additional context, I often stay in hostels so I’m not unfamiliar with lower budget accommodations.) but all the hotels had friendly staff willing to assist in any way. Guide I’m an introvert, and I typically do small group tours so I was really worried about doing a 10 day private tour on my own. But honestly with janaka it felt like being on a trip with a new friend. He was able to tell when I needed quiet time, especially in the morning. And he was good at filling our driving time with stories about the country’s history and culture. We had lots of great talks and jokes. He made recommendations on additional activities but was never pushy when I wasn’t interested. He was also great about offering to take pictures (I’m really bad at remembering to capture moments.) and lastly, I knew that if I had any issues or concerns, he would help. Overall I recommend Janaka and the tour company. I also recommend doing a private tour so that you have flexibility to do the vacation you want.Show more

  We thoroughly enjoyed our 10-day tour with 2 safari days. The itinerary was well planned though fast-paced given our age and level of fitness. Two of the hotels needed improvement in terms of service, food and quality of rooms. But what made a huge difference was the driver/guide Nimantha, who we rate was among the best we have had in our travels around the world. Nimantha is a valuable asset to BH Lanka given his wealth of knowledge on Sri Lanka, his friendly disposition and care and respect for the guests. Nimantha made our trip truly memorable!Show more

  My husband and I did a 10 day tour of Sri Lanka. Overall our experience with BH Lanka was mixed, but our guide Bhatiya was amazing. Guide: 5/5 stars! Bhatiya was kind, knowledgeable, helpful, put us at ease and always made us feel safe, brought us delicious food his lovely wife made, taught us so much about Sri Lankan history, culture and language, played fun music for us, and we figured out a schedule that worked for us every day! BH Lanka: 3/5 stars. We booked through BH Lanka because we saw great reviews and because they claim “complete price transparency and no hidden charges” and “excellent customer service.” We paid for the tour, the superior room charge, and a festival surcharge. First, there was no festival happening, and it was not until we brought this to their attention that they agreed to refund us the $200 they had kept from us. Secondly, one night, they booked us in a deluxe room, but still charged us an additional $74/night. When we brought up that we weren’t happy with the place, they offered us $20 worth of free admissions, nowhere near the amount we were paying per night. It was only after we looked through the bookings that we realized BH Lanka knowingly booked us in the wrong hotel without communicating with us or offering to refund the additional money we were spending. We had to go through multiple rounds of emailing and pointing out the multiple ways they had overcharged us before we received any refund, which is the last thing you want to be doing on vacation! While we loved our tour guide, we would want to warn others about this experience. If you do decide to book with them, doublecheck everything as they will happily charge you and keep your money for services you never receive.Show more
