You'll head out early from Marrakech going southeast through the High Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Telouet where you can walk around the historic Kasbah and see what's left of this old fortress. From there, it's on to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site that's basically a fortified village built into the hillside. You might recognize it from movies actually, since they've filmed quite a bit there. After grabbing lunch in the village, you'll drive through Ouarzazate (they call it African Hollywood because of all the film studios), then continue through the Valley of the Roses and along what locals call the Road of 1000 Kasbahs. By evening you'll reach Dades Gorge where you're staying for the night.

    Dades Gorge to Erg Chebbi

This morning you're heading from Dades Valley over to Todgha Gorge, which is the biggest natural gorge in North Africa. You'll take a short walk through it, and there's a decent chance you'll run into nomadic people who come down to collect water there. After lunch, you'll drive through several Berber villages and head toward Erg Chebbi in the Sahara. By late afternoon you're watching the sunset over the dunes, and after a short camel trek, you'll spend the night in traditional Berber tents. You'll wake up early enough to catch the sunrise from the sand dunes.
