Itinerary
- Day 1
Marrakech to Dades Gorge
You'll head out early from Marrakech going southeast through the High Atlas Mountains. The first stop is Telouet where you can walk around the historic Kasbah and see what's left of this old fortress. From there, it's on to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site that's basically a fortified village built into the hillside. You might recognize it from movies actually, since they've filmed quite a bit there. After grabbing lunch in the village, you'll drive through Ouarzazate (they call it African Hollywood because of all the film studios), then continue through the Valley of the Roses and along what locals call the Road of 1000 Kasbahs. By evening you'll reach Dades Gorge where you're staying for the night.

Dades Gorge to Erg Chebbi
This morning you're heading from Dades Valley over to Todgha Gorge, which is the biggest natural gorge in North Africa. You'll take a short walk through it, and there's a decent chance you'll run into nomadic people who come down to collect water there. After lunch, you'll drive through several Berber villages and head toward Erg Chebbi in the Sahara. By late afternoon you're watching the sunset over the dunes, and after a short camel trek, you'll spend the night in traditional Berber tents. You'll wake up early enough to catch the sunrise from the sand dunes.

- Day 3
Erg Chebbi to Tamsahlte
Starting from Merzouga after breakfast, you'll travel west through Rissani and Alnif village, arriving in Tazzarine mid-morning. There's a site here with prehistoric rock drawings that go back around 5000 years BC, which gives you a real sense of how long people have been in this region. You'll then continue on to Tamsahlte and check into a traditional kasbah for your accommodation that night.

Tamsahlte to Marrakech
You'll pass through the village of 45 Kasbahs with really nice views of the surrounding landscape, then move into the Draa Valley, which is Morocco's longest valley at 240 km. The valley has tons of palm groves, Berber villages scattered throughout, and it's famous for producing high-quality dates and henna. In the afternoon you're crossing back over the Atlas Mountains and should arrive in Marrakech by evening.
