  Can you make a reservation without commitment this close to departure, or is full payment required?

    We are not able to make a reservation without commitment this close to departure. If you are looking at the June 27th date, at most we'd be able to provide a 48 hour hold but in order to confirm the trip and secure your spaces, full payment would be required since we are within 56 days of the departure date.

    Does the region require malaria prevention? How challenging is the hike to Mount Kinabalu? Can you only take the trip to the basic camp and wait for the group coming back from the top?

    According to the current travel information for the regions visited on this trip, malaria prevention medication is not generally required. However, we strongly recommend consulting your doctor or travel clinic for the latest medical advice and any recommended vaccinations before departure. There have been rare instances of dengue fever reported in the region. As dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes, we recommend preventative measures such as using insect repellent, wearing long clothing and staying indoors around dusk and dawn where possible. Mt Kinabalu is considered a rewarding but physically challenging climb, and the trip has an overall physical rating of 4 out of 5. The climb mainly consists of steep steps both uphill and downhill, and good fitness is important to fully enjoy the experience. It is possible to only hike to the basic camp accommodation and not continue to the summit section if preferred. You would then wait there for the group to return from the summit attempt. Please note however that weather conditions, altitude and physical fitness can all affect the experience, and the mountain guides and leader will always prioritise traveller safety. As conditions at higher altitude can become very cold despite the generally hot and humid weather in Borneo, please ensure you pack suitable warm clothing. If you have any existing medical conditions, particularly those affected by exertion, altitude or cold temperatures, we recommend discussing the trek with your doctor before booking.

  Do you offer customized tours? I'm interested on the Sabah Adventure but skipping the hike to Mt. Kinabalu, and adding 3-4 days at the end of this tour to Singapore.

    We do offer customized tours, but there are a few requirements that need to be met. Unfortunately, the minimum requirement is 4 passengers. Since there are only 2 travelers, we recommend joining a suitable group tour or exploring other available options.

  Is it possible to have this adventure minus the climb up the mountain for a group of friends? How many people can I reserve spots for in the group? What is the best time of year to travel to this destination?

    If you do not wish to climb Mt Kinabalu you can opt to stay the night at the base of the mountain in dormitory accommodation and meet the group the following day when they descend. Please let us know at time of booking if you wish to opt out of the climb. Please note due to limited availability there may be an additional charge to book this alternative accommodation. The additional charge will be confirmed to you upon your booking request being confirmed and will be collected locally by your leader on day one.
    
    Please note any additional activities you choose to do during this time will be at your own expense and can be organized locally, Some include:
    
    1. Guide hire - approx 100MYR - You can hire a guide and walk some of the many trails located at the base of the mountain.
    
    2. Sabah Tea Plantation - approx 80MYR - Visit a tea plantation (approx 60 mins drive), cost only included transfers to and from the plantation
    
    3. Mt Kinabalu Garden - approx 15MYR entry fee - Free guided tour of the gardens
    
    4. War Memorials - approx 40MYR - visit the surrounding war memorials, cost only includes transport.
    
    5. Walai Tokou Homestay Day Trip Package (Min 2 pax) – approx. 260MYR per pax. Includes a cooking class with lunch, an opportunity to engage in local crafts, and transfer to the park base.
    
    6. Poring Hot Spring – approx 50MYR entry fee – Tour leader can assist to arrange transport on the ground.
    
    The maximum group size for this trip is 16 people depending on your group size and date that you decide on we can advise how many space are left and available for hold.

  Is transport from the airport on the first day included? And also on the last day? If not, could this be arranged and how much would the cost be? As I'm travelling alone, would I be sharing accommodation with other females?

    This tour does not include transfers but we would be happy to pre book for you if you would be more comfortable on arrival knowing a representative was there to meet you.
    
    An arrival transfer price varies depending if arriving day or night. Day for yourself in the vehicle will be an additional 16 EUR, night 24 EUR.
    
    Departure transfer would be an additional 29 EUR.
    
    If you want to take a taxi on arrival please go to the taxi service counter – here the rate is a set rate of 35 MYR and they will issue a voucher to use with the taxi's parked outside. If you arrive between 12am – 6am expect to pay a 50% surcharge

    Unfortunately it does look like the December 17th date is sold out. As our system is not live sometimes it can take a day or 2 to get these sold out dates removed from our website. In fact it looks like it has already been removed
    
    It does look like there is a December 10th or December 22nd departure available though. Would any of those dates catch your eye?

The On Request process is necessary once we are within 28 days to the departure date, as we need to be able to confirm availability for various accommodation locations and transport services throughout the trip before we confirm your spot on the tour. If we are unable to confirm your space on the trip, we would provide a full refund for the money paid towards the booking.

  Is it possible to rent or buy cheap/good quality stuff for the Kinabalu hike there? I'm going travelling around south east Asia for a few months and Borneo would be my first stop. I don't really want to have to carry everything I need for the hike from the UK or be taking it with me afterwards as I don't plan on doing many other hikes like this!

    Kota Kinabalu is a well established city with many shopping options where you can look to pick up any last minute essentials for your trip. Our essential trip information has a packing section which will outline what we suggest you pack for the trip. Anything you need you should be able to pick up in Kota Kinabalu and some of the bigger towns along the way if you need too, but it's a good idea to be as prepared as possible before you start the tour.

    I'm also very interested in doing my PADI in Borneo as I've heard it's excellent diving but I've not done my qualification yet. I'm not in any rush to head off anywhere after the Intrepid tour finishes so do you have any recommendations for where I could do my PADI, somewhere reasonably priced and safe?

  What type of age group can you expect on this trip?

    This tour is usually made of a wide range of ages, so wouldn't be exclusively a younger group, although this doesn't usually detract from enjoying the tour.
