Dakar
You'll arrive in Dakar and connect with your guide right away. They'll help sort out check-in at the hotel and give you a rundown of what to expect during your safari ahead.

- Day 2
Dakar
After breakfast you'll head into Dakar to explore. Start at Tilen market where you can see medicinal herbs and meet traditional healers, then move through the National Art Gallery and walk around the Medina residential area. Around midday you'll take a boat to Goree Island, a UNESCO site where you'll see the Door of No Return and tour the ethnographic museum with a curator talking through the island's complex history.

Dakar to St Louis
You're heading north toward St Louis, and the drive takes you past Pink Lake where you can stop and watch salt workers in action. There's also a visit to a Fulani village where the local king greets visitors. After that it's about 165 miles more to St Louis, where you'll catch the opening night of the Jazz Festival.

St Louis
Early in the day you'll get to Djoudj National Park, one of the most important bird sanctuaries around and located on a major migratory route. You'll spot huge numbers of white pelicans and flamingos here, roughly 10,000 of each. That evening brings Jazz Festival performances with well-known musicians.

St Louis
You'll spend time walking through St Louis, Senegal's old French colonial capital. The narrow streets have houses with carved balconies and verandas from that colonial period, which gives the place its particular character. The Jazz Festival continues in the evening with Kora players and vocalists performing.

St Louis to Dakar
After breakfast you're headed back to Dakar, stopping in Touba to visit this holy city. You'll tour the Grand Mosque and Library and learn about the Mouride Community and its significance. Later you'll have dinner and spend the night at Yass Hotel.
