How long is the hike to basecamp? And I will be flying in from Bhutan, how do we get our passports to you 5 days prior? I have an existing Chinese Visa, good til June 2028

    Flights / Transfers
    Visa
    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten January 2026

For your convenience, there is no need to hike to Base Camp. Vehicles can reach all the way to Base Camp, so the journey will be done by road.

Since you already hold a valid Chinese visa (valid until June 2028), there is no need to submit your original passport to us. The requirement to provide a passport 5 days in advance applies only when we are applying for a visa on behalf of the traveller.

However, for the Tibet Entry Permit, we will need:
A clear scanned copy of your passport (photo page), and
      One recent digital passport-size photograph.

Do you sort the visa for this trip? Or do I?

    Visa
    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten November 2025

Even now I don't have a reservation for the Tibet tour because January, February are very cold in Tibet. For the visa we will make the Group visa for Tibet.

      Brian

      TravelerWritten November 2025

If January and February are very cold would end of February/march be better? And so regarding the visa, if I book the tour, you sort out all Tibet visa for the group yes?

    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten November 2025

I can do your group visa from Nepal but you have to be in Nepal 4 working days before. It will be best If you make a China visa and send to me a copy of visa and passport copy. I will make a Tibet permit. I have already booked on 4 April 2026. Please join them.

  • C

    Charles

    Asked on September 25th, 2025

How do I apply for a Chinese visa? Do I book the tour first to have a confirmed application itinerary? Will listing Tibet on the itinerary pose a problem for visa approval? If the visa is rejected, will I get a refund? Do I have to stay in Kathmandu for 4 business days for visa/permit application?

    Visa
    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten September 2025

You can either apply for the Chinese visa yourself from USA or we can also apply for you. If you apply by yourself, then please don't add the Tibet part as they will not give you the visa if you mention Tibet. You can just say you are going to China. If you want us to apply for the visa, then you will have to arrive 4 working days before the start of the tour in Kathmandu, Nepal. It will cost USD 225 for the visa application fee for American citizens. There is a 99% visa approval rate when we apply for the visa. But still a chance that visa will not be approved. You will also need a bank balance of 3 months which has at least USD 1500. Unfortunately, if the visa is rejected, then there will not be any refund as everything will be booked and ready for your arrival.

    • C

      Charles

      TravelerWritten September 2025

When you apply for a Chinese visa, do they ask to see a detailed China itinerary? It seems that this tour starts in China and then very quickly we travel to Tibet.

    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten September 2025

There will be a form for you to fill for the visa application. You can see if there are any specific requirements. You can create an itinerary for China tour just to show the embassy if needed. Unfortunately we don't have any China tours, so we don't have itinerary to provide you. This Tibet tour starts in Kathmandu, Nepal. We have to provide you with the required Tibet permit. Because of this you cannot fly directly to Tibet.
