Is it possible to have this tour with a french speaking guide?

In Uzbekistan it is possible to arrange a French speaking guide but in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan it is a problem and for 1 person it will a different price, almost two times expensive.

Yes, the departure for October 22 – November 4, 2025 is currently scheduled and open for booking. At this stage we already have interest for this tour, and we expect it to be confirmed as the date approaches. If there is no one except you two you may travel as a private group tour only two of you. Minimum required number is 2 people to realize and operate the tour.

Yes, you can absolutely have your own room for the duration of the tour—there is a single supplement fee for this, and we'll include it in your final quote. Regarding extras, we always strive to make your experience as smooth and transparent as possible. Here's a rough estimate of additional costs you may want to consider during the tour: Tips for drivers, local guides, hotel porters, etc.: We do not collect a tip pool in advance like some companies in Morocco. However, we are happy to provide tipping guidelines. On average: Driver: ~$3–5 per day per person Local guide: ~$5–7 per day per person Porters: ~$1 per service A total of $100–120 for the whole trip is a good ballpark. Meals not included: Depending on your personal preference, allow about $10–15 per meal at local restaurants. Over two weeks, this could total around $150–200. Entrance fees: Most major entrance fees are already included in our program. If any optional sites or activities arise, they would be minimal and communicated in advance. Different discounts are not available to combined for one tour. You can use only one 5% discount.

Wanted to know if porterage is included on the trip and what luggage is allowed?

Porterage is not included in the tour package. Travelers are kindly requested to carry their own luggage during transfers and hotel check-ins. Our team and local guides will, of course, be there to assist where possible. There are no strict limitations on the amount of luggage, so you are welcome to bring as many bags as you need. However, for your own comfort and ease during travel between cities and accommodations, we recommend packing light and manageable luggage.

Is there a guide that accompanies tour from beginning to end across borders. Is all accommodation in hotels? As a solo traveller will I have my own room not shared with my own private bathroom at all locations?

Yes you will be provided with a guide to accompany you in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan who will accompany from Almaty till Bishkek airport when you fly to Tashkent and Uzbekistan guide will pick you at airport of Tashkent on arrival. The border with Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan you will cross with a guide. As a single traveler you will be provided with a single room.

When would you like to join this tour? Best time to travel in a Central Asia is from April to June and from August to November. July month is hot 40-45C Spring and summer and fall are very good time.

I and my 16 yr old son would like to join this tour. We will be flying in from Singapore. I'm a vegetarian. Is that managed? Also, we would like to do 2 days in Tajikistan. Can we go from Khiva to Dushanbe without coming back to Tashkent? if so, will you adjust the price?

You can go to Dushanbe from Khiva to Samarkand and from Samarkand to Penjikent from Penjikent to Dushanbe. But there is no direct flight or train between two cities. It is much better If you fly from Khiva to Tashkent and from Tashkent to Dushanbe, it will be $200 pp, 2 flights Urgench to Tashkent and Tashkent to Dushanbe. Train is very long more than 16 hrs and cross the land birder and take taxi tp Penjikent from Penjiken to Dushnabe 350 km 5 hrs drive. It will be more expensive than 200 USD pp.

Once our tour began contact with SJ’s continued but with other staff members. In each city of each country tour guides and drivers were amazing. The guides were very knowledgeable, warm and friendly. Contact details of the guides and drivers were given in advance and they always contacted us via WhatsApp prior to our arrival. They were always on time and all expectations were met. Border crossings went smoothly with drop off and picks ups. Again we were always met by our guides and drivers once we crossed over the border. Our overall tour of The Stans was truly an unforgettable experience!! Booking with a local tour company is definitely the way to go. Vaccines

- Typhoid - Recommended for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan.Uzbekistan. Ideally 2 weeks before travel.
- Hepatitis A - Recommended for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan.Uzbekistan. Ideally 2 weeks before travel.
- Tuberculosis - Recommended for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan.Uzbekistan. Ideally 3 months before travel.
- Hepatitis B - Recommended for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan.Uzbekistan. Ideally 2 months before travel.
- Rabies - Recommended for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan.Uzbekistan. Ideally 1 month before travel.
- Yellow fever - Certificate of vaccination required if arriving from an area with a risk of yellow fever transmission for Kazakhstan.Kyrgyzstan. Ideally 10 days before travel.
- Tick-borne encephalitis - Recommended for Kazakhstan. Ideally 6 months before travel.
Visa
- Unfortunately we cannot offer you a visa application service. Whether you need a visa or not depends on your nationality and where you wish to travel. Assuming your home country does not have a visa agreement with the country you're planning to visit, you will need to apply for a visa in advance of your scheduled departure.
- Here is an indication for which countries you might need a visa. Please contact the local embassy for help applying for visas to these places.
Payment information
- For any tour departing before May 24th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after May 24th, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Steppe Journeys. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 70 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
- Some departure dates and prices may vary and Steppe Journeys will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
- The following cards are accepted for "Steppe Journeys" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
Cancellation Policy
- Your money is safe with TourRadar, as we only pay the tour operator after your tour has departed.
- TourRadar is an authorized Agent of Steppe Journeys. Please familiarize yourself with the Steppe Journeys payment, cancellation and refund conditions.
