Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Lappeenranta

You'll arrive in Lappeenranta and settle in for the night. The town has some interesting historic fortifications worth checking out, and there's a relaxing cruise option along the Saimaa Canal if you want to ease into things. The harbor area is particularly nice during summer evenings, so that's a good spot to grab dinner and get a feel for the place.

    Start point
Lappeenranta, South Karelia, Finland (Arrival and first night)

    Optional Activities

    • Explore historic fortifications in Lappeenranta
    • Cruise along the Saimaa Canal
    • Visit the harbor area
    Landmarks

    Lappeenranta to Lintusalo

Today's a 37 km cycling day with Lake Saimaa on both sides of you. You'll stop in Taipalsaari for their famous oversized ice cream cones (they're actually quite something), then head toward Sarviniemi UNESCO Geopark. After that, you'll catch a ferry across Lake Saimaa to Lintusalo and finish the day with pancakes at the pier. It's a good mix of riding and breaks.

The harbor is worth wandering through, and if you're up for it, climb the 28-meter-high bridge for views across the lake and grab coffee at the café up top. There's also an optional solar-powered boat cruise leaving from the harbor if you want to do that instead of or after cycling.
