  The tour would’ve benefited from an extra day in Siem and Koh Rong. The Cambodia portion of the trip is quite travel-day heavy and we spent 4-5h or so every other day on the bus as the roads are slow there. If you leave at 10am and arrive at 3pm that’s your whole day pretty much gone. Also the tour doesn’t have many actual inclusions so you’re essentially paying for only the CEO, transport and travel buddies. Everything is extra. For such a cheap country you could get better value for money elsewhere.Show more

  What should have been a restorative holiday became a lesson in how easily structural inequality in travel is ignored, normalized, and contractually excused. This experience made something painfully clear: these tours work beautifully if you have a “good” passport. If you don’t, you carry all the risk, even when the tour itself is a gatekeeper to the visa. Ironically, travelers facing the most restrictions are the ones who need transparency and competent tour operators the most. That is exactly where G Adventures and TourRadar failed. I booked this tour believing that going with a well-known operator would reduce risk, especially around visas. Instead, I discovered too late that this was a tour I could never realistically attend, no matter how diligently I prepared. I raised e-visa concerns early and repeatedly asked for guidance and required documents. At no point was I told that the visa I needed could not be obtained independently, or that my only viable path depended on an approval letter issued exclusively by the tour operator. I did not learn this from G Adventures or TourRadar. I learned it by personally going to the embassy, on my own initiative, while already traveling. Had this been disclosed upfront, I would never have booked this tour or even if booked would not have traveled to avoid additional cost. When it became clear that the tour operator had neither disclosed this critical information nor provided the required approval letter, I asked TourRadar to intervene. They refused to meaningfully engage, and hid behind terms and conditions rather than addressing the substance of the problem. The phrase “visa is the traveler’s responsibility” sounds reasonable until you realize the traveler is structurally unable to apply without the operator’s cooperation, wich comes at extra cost of 200$ not disclosed at the time of booking. What followed was a slow withdrawal of responsibility. Local staff showed limited empathy but were clearly constrained by the central office. I did not ask for a refund. I asked for reasonable compensation equivalent to my expenses for future travel, attempting to resolve the matter amicably. I was repeatedly told that options were being explored, only to be told in the end that nothing could be recouped. I booked through TourRadar expecting at least some level of advocacy or mediation when serious issues arose. Instead, TourRadar functioned purely as a booking layer that collected payment and stepped aside the moment things became complicated. This was supposed to be a holiday after a year of hard work. Instead, it became the most excluded and powerless I have ever felt while traveling.Show more
