Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Cinque Terre

    You'll arrive in Cinque Terre at your own pace and check into your hotel. After getting settled, spend the afternoon wandering around the village and getting a feel for the place. The atmosphere here is pretty peaceful, so there's no rush. Take time to walk around the area or just sit in the village square and watch the locals go about their day Italian style.

  2. Day 2

    Monterosso to Vernazza

    Catch an early train to Monterosso, the most visited of the five villages. There you can see the Madonna of Soviore and Madonna of Reggio monasteries and check out the beaches. From there, take a scenic hike through vineyards and Mediterranean woods that leads to Vernazzo, a colorful fishing village with a church and real character. Once you've had enough exploring, head back to your hotel by train.

  3. Day 3

    Manarola to Corniglia

    Take the train to Manarola to see the famous via dell'Amore where couples leave padlocks as symbols. Then hike through vineyards with sea views toward Corniglia, stopping in the quiet village of Volastra for a picnic. You'll have time to see the Church of S. Pietro and the Oratory of the Flagellants of S. Caterina in Corniglia before catching the train back.

  4. Day 4

    Camogli to Portofino

    Head to Camogli and explore its charming harbor filled with colorful old buildings and medieval castle ruins. After that, take a boat out to the San Fruttuoso monastery tucked in a quiet bay. From there, hike through the Regional Natural Park of Portofino to reach Portofino, a famous village known for its glamorous atmosphere. Return to your hotel by bus and train.

    After breakfast, take the train to Riomaggiore and hike up toward the castle overlooking the village, then continue to the Sanctuary of Madonna di Montenero for great views of the Gulf of La Spezia. Follow a path along the coast to Campiglia and then on to Portovenere, a medieval fishing village with views of Palmaria and Tino islands. This spot is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it's worth spending time there before heading back by train.
