Tbilisi
You'll arrive in Tbilisi and jump straight into exploring the city's main areas. Start by walking through Old Town, where narrow streets wind past historic spots like Narikala Fortress and Metekhi Church. After that, head across the Bridge of Peace and check out Rustaveli Avenue for a sense of the city's layout. Later, take the cable car up into the hills to grab views across Tbilisi and see the Mother Georgia statue. It's a solid introduction to the capital, though you'll cover ground quickly depending on when you land.

- Day 2
Tbilisi to Mtskheta
Pick up your 4x4 SUV and drive off-road toward Lake Sioni, where you'll see views of both the Lower and Higher Caucasus mountains rising up around you. Then head to Mtskheta, an old capital with the Church of Sveti Tsakheli and Jabri Monastery offering good vantage points over the landscape. By evening, you'll be back in Tbilisi for a traditional Georgian dinner with live music, folk dancing, and entertainment. It's a full day mixing scenery, history, and culture in one go.

Tbilisi to Basalt Plateau
This is a scenic drive west into the Lower Caucasus with basalt plateaus and volcanic cones shaping the terrain. You'll pass through Armenian villages set in valleys, then climb off-road up to over 3,000 meters across the plateau. Watch for raptors flying overhead as you pass crater lakes, small streams, and grazing sheep. You might spot nomadic Azeri tents dotted across the landscape. The route takes you near Lake Tsalka and Lake Tevachkuri. It's terrain that feels remote and feels like you're far from any main roads.

The highlight is stopping at Borjomi Park for a short 30 to 40 minute walk to a naturally heated geothermal pool where you can actually swim. There's also a chance to visit local homes along the way and get a feel for how people live in these valleys.

Later in the day, visit the restored Akhaltsikhe Fortress, also called Rabati, which sits prominently above the surrounding area. Next, visit Lake Zhinvali Dam and the Church of Ana Nori on its shores. Before reaching Gudauri, don't miss seeing where the Black and White Aragvi Rivers meet and flow side by side with their different colors visible. It's a long day with multiple stops and a significant change in elevation.

Take an off-road drive to waterfalls near the Russian border and hike through the Trousseau River gorge with its underground canyon and travertine springs. Later, you'll participate in a Georgian cooking workshop where you'll learn to make khachapuri and khinkali from scratch. After that, continue south to Tbilisi, where you'll return your 4x4 at the airport and catch your flight home. It's a mellow finishing day that lets you ease out of the trip rather than ending abruptly.
