Itinerary
- Day 1
Harstad
You'll land at Evenes Airport and catch the public airport express bus heading to Harstad. The drive takes you through northern Norwegian landscape before reaching your hotel. Get settled in and rest up for the journey ahead.
- Day 2
Harstad to Sortland
After breakfast, you'll board the Norwegian Coastal Express mail boat for a 4.5-hour sail down the Vesterålen coast toward Sortland. The route passes through several historic coastal towns, and when you arrive, you'll see why Sortland's called the 'blue town' with all its distinctive blue-painted houses everywhere. You'll stay here for three nights total.

Landmarks Sortland Vesterålen - Days 3 - 4
Vesterålen Archipelago
You'll head out from Sortland on a rib boat for a fjord and sea eagle safari through the Djupfjord and Sigerfjord. Your guide will point out Norway's sea eagles while sharing local stories as you cruise the waters. During the day, you can visit the Inga Sámi Siida cultural center to learn about indigenous Sami traditions, or check out the Hurtigruten Museum in Stokmarknes if that interests you more. Later in the evening, keep watch on the sky for Northern Lights, and afterward head back to the hotel for an hour in the sauna to warm up.

Sortland to Svolværs
At lunchtime you'll board the mail boat again for another voyage, this time heading to Lofoten Islands. The 5.5-hour journey includes sailing through Trollfjord, one of Norway's most famous narrow passages at roughly 100 meters wide at its tightest point. You'll arrive in Svolvær, Lofoten's largest town, surrounded by those dramatic mountain peaks. Two nights here.

- Day 6
Lofoten Islands
You have options for how to spend your day in the Lofoten Islands. Take a guided snowshoe hike (around 3 hours) with a local guide who'll lead you to the best viewpoints and talk about wildlife, nature, and the area's history. Or if that doesn't appeal to you, walk around Svolvær's quayside to see traditional fishermen's huts, fish farms, and fishing boats instead. As it gets dark, watch the sky for Northern Lights making their appearance across the winter landscape.

- Day 7
Svolværs to Harstad
The Lofoten Express bus brings you back to Harstad, about 3 hours away. Once there, take time walking around this 'Cultural City of the North' and check out the harbor with its fishing boats and Hurtigruten ships. Visit Trondenes Church if interested, a 13th-century medieval church and the northernmost preserved one of its kind. Your final night is spent in Harstad.
