You can leave the group at Fort Augustus - you just need to inform the tour guide on the day of the tour that you will stay there and not continue to Edinburgh.

If I read correctly, no entrance fees to castles, gardens, etc, are included in the overall fees? If so, how do I get to purchase the entrance tickets to make sure that I can see what I am wanting and supposed to see and not miss out due to not having entrance tickets in advance?

  Another question: how much time (ratio or % or hrs) are we spending driving vs time to explore the sights? Is it just time for a photo stop /selfies or do we actually have some time to take in the view when we are at scenic spots? This is my first tour and will be my first visit to Scotland so I do want to be immersed in the atmosphere.

  The stops on the tour will be of varying lengths, from short photo op and comfort break stops to longer stops for visiting attractions, exploring a town or having lunch. Most stops are free time for passengers to explore as you wish, and the driver-guide will always let you know what time to meet back at the mini-coach. The longest single drive time on the bus is usually no more than 2 hours, depending on traffic.
