Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in San Jose

    You'll arrive at San Jose International Airport and meet your Sea Kayaking Costa Rica representative. The transfer to your hotel takes just 10 minutes, so you'll settle in quickly. Spend the rest of the day recovering from travel. For dinner, you can eat at the hotel restaurant or walk to nearby eateries in the area.

  2. Day 2

    San Jose to Tortuguero National Park

    Head out early for the drive to La Pavona river port, passing through Braulio Carrillo National Park, small villages, and banana plantations. A motorboat takes you to Manatus Hotel on Tortuguero National Park's edge. After lunch and getting settled, you'll have a kayak orientation and paddle through forest-lined canals. Later, take an evening beach walk to look for nesting turtles or hatchlings.

  3. Day 3

    Tortuguero National Park Exploration

    If you're interested, join an optional early coffee and birdwatching session before breakfast. Paddle to Cerro Tortuguero, a dormant volcanic formation with views across the lowland rainforest and Caribbean Sea. Hike to the summit for panoramic views, then explore the village below. You'll likely spot monkeys, sloths, turtles, and various bird species during the day.

  4. Day 4

    Remote Canal Exploration

    Start the morning paddling through remote sections of Tortuguero National Park with your boat captain and support boat. Navigate calm water trails surrounded by dense tropical vegetation and wildlife. By midday you'll return to Manatus Hotel. The afternoon includes a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservancy to learn about conservation work in the area. The rest of the day is yours to rest and relax.

  5. Day 5

    Laguna 4 and Community Visit

    Paddle to Laguna 4 this morning, which is the longest paddling stretch of your trip. A support boat stays nearby if anyone gets tired. Visit a rural community and local farm on the Caribbean coastline, and spend time with a local family who'll prepare traditional cuisine over a wood stove. You'll get back to Manatus Hotel by midday to rest before dinner.

    Tortuguero to San Jose

    After breakfast, leave Tortuguero and head back toward San Jose. You'll take a motorboat and then van transport over the Central Volcanic Mountain Range with a lunch stop during the drive. Once you reach San Jose in the afternoon, your time is free. Relax at the hotel, use the amenities, or check out nearby restaurants for dinner.

  • Payment information
    • For any tour departing before January 23rd, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after January 23rd, 2026, a minimum payment of $500 is required to confirm your booking with Sea Kayaking Costa Rica. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 40 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
    • Some departure dates and prices may vary and Sea Kayaking Costa Rica will contact you with any discrepancies before your booking is confirmed.
    • The following cards are accepted for "Sea Kayaking Costa Rica" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
