- Day 1
Arrival in Porto
You'll fly into Porto and have the rest of the day to settle in at your own pace. The UNESCO-listed center is there whenever you're ready to wander around, and you can soak up the local culture and atmosphere of this city on the Douro River on your own schedule.

Porto
Take a walking tour through Porto with a guide who'll cover famous monuments and the lesser-known spots throughout the city. You'll learn about local politics, religion, customs, traditions, and food. After that, head to one of Porto's oldest port cellars where you can try three different vintages and see why the wines made this place so well-known.

Landmarks Porto Port Cellars - Day 3
Braga - Viana do Castelo
Travel north to see three towns in one day. Start in Guimarães walking through the medieval center and up to the castle where Portugal was born, then check out the Palace of the Dukes. Next you'll head to Braga to see the Bom Jesus do Monte complex with its massive 17-flight stairway. Later, arrive in Viana do Castelo and grab fresh seafood at this coastal town.

Ponte de Lima - Gerês National Park
Begin with a guided walk through Viana do Castelo looking at Manueline, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Deco buildings throughout the city. From there, continue to historic Ponte de Lima and cross its medieval bridge before having a traditional lunch in the town square. Then you'll visit Quinta do Ameal wine estate to tour the cellar, learn about organic wine production, and taste some wines. You'll finish at your hotel on the edge of Gerês National Park.

Mateus Palace - Douro Valley
Spend the day on a gentle walk through Gerês National Park with clear streams, hidden waterfalls, and quiet lakes around you. After lunch by the water, you can swim and cool off. Later, head to Vila Real to see Mateus Palace with its baroque architecture, then drive into the Douro Valley to your hotel with views of the famous terraced hillsides.

Douro Valley
Travel to Pinhão in the Douro Valley heart and board a historic Rabelo boat for a cruise on the river with wineries on both sides. You'll then take a local train along the river to Peso da Régua. From there, a coach brings you to a family-run winery where you'll walk the vineyard, learn how wine gets made, and sample bottles before heading back to your hotel.

Aveiro - Coimbra
Head south to Aveiro, a former major seaport that now has canals crossed by colorful traditional boats you can see throughout the city. Walk through the historic center, then continue to Coimbra for a guided tour of this university town. The historic center is filled with buildings from many different periods spanning nearly a thousand years.

- Day 8
Batalha - Alcobaça - Nazaré - Óbidos
Visit Tomar, the last Templar town, and explore the UNESCO-listed Convent of Christ to learn about Templar history. Continue to two UNESCO monasteries: Batalha with its flamboyant gothic style from the 14th century, then Alcobaça from the 12th century. Stop in the fishing village of Nazaré for lunch, then head to the medieval walled town of Óbidos to try sweet cherry liqueur and walk the cobbled streets.

- Day 9
Évora
Head south into the Alentejo region and visit a working cork farm surrounded by rolling hills, cork forests, olive groves, and vineyards. Learn how cork farming works and about the local plants and animals, then taste wines at the farmhouse. After that, go to Évora for a walking tour of its UNESCO-listed center with roots going back to Roman times. Climb the cathedral roof for views of the city.

- Day 10
Lisbon
Travel to Sintra to see this romantic 19th-century town with its ornate, colorfully painted villas and palaces surrounded by parks and gardens (the whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Then head to Lisbon and enjoy a sailing cruise on the Tagus River. After you check in at your city center hotel, join an evening walking tour to experience Fado, Portugal's traditional music. You'll visit traditional Fado spots in Old Lisbon and catch a live performance.

Explore Belém's famous monuments and learn about Portugal's golden age of exploration. Back in Lisbon, visit the Orient Museum to see Portugal's connections with Asia. Then board a vintage No. 28 Tram from the 1930s that takes you through Lisbon's oldest districts. End with a farewell dinner.
