  The 8 Days Best of Japan tour was an incredible journey and an incredible introduction to the Japanese culture, history and scenery! The program was very well planned, with all the famous sites as well as beautiful temples and peaceful gardens, vibrant city streets, and experiences of Japanese culture. The pace of each day was good, allowing time to see the attractions without feeling rushed off its feet. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and professional. They gave us interesting details about the history and culture of Japan and were always willing to answer any questions or give us tips. Transportation was comfortable and reliable and hotels were clean and convenient. The mix of organised sightseeing and free time was a great pleasure for me, as it enabled us to visit some areas on our own and sample some local delicacies. Daily activities were well organised and transfers were smooth, pleasant and comfortable. Overall the 8 Days Best of Japan tour was far better than I could have hoped for and has provided me with many great memories. It is highly recommended to those who want a well-organised and fun way to find out about Japan.Show more

This route is unusual in that it had been carefully planned with not just the main sights in mind but to create a proper story over the course of eight days that made Japan feel more open, more multifaceted, more interesting. Whether it was the hustle and bustle of Tokyo's electrifying streets or the tranquil beauty of Kyoto's historic temples, every place was a standout cultural difference that made the trip always interesting and invigorating. The travel between cities was well managed and hassle-free, which eliminated the fear of traversing an unknown land on your own. By the last day, Japan was no longer a foreign place, but a familiar, warm, and most definitely memorable one.Show more

  This 8 Days Best of Japan tour was an excellent one, from start to finish. The agenda was just right – the highlights of Japan as well as some lesser known areas that helped us understand the culture and beauty of Japan. We visited historic places of worship, quaint parks, colorful areas of the city, and had breathtaking vistas, making every day seem special. The tour guide, was fantastic and made a lot of the trip. They were always ready, informative and ensured that everyone in the group was comfortable and on schedule. One of the highlights of the trip were their recommendations for local restaurants and regional specialties. The transportations were efficient, the hotels were comfortable and all the details of the tour were organised professionally. Despite the hustle and bustle there was some time to wander, to sample the local life. This tour in Japan was a wonderful experience and definitely recommended. It is a perfect choice for the people, who wish to enjoy the best of Japan in 8 days without making any arrangements of their own.Show more

The schedule was well organized and very easy to follow, and included both popular destinations as well as some more off-the-beaten-path locations that gave the journey a delightful personal touch. The transportation and accommodation arrangements were well explained and there was no tension with regard to logistics. I was extremely confident going on the trip, knowing what to expect at each step. The booking process was well managed and there was not much back and forth to ensure details were correct. An improvement that could be made is to provide an alternative provision of meals or activities if they are cancelled or if their plans change, and to show how long the journey will take first rather than when it happens.Show more

  Ume Travel arranged a fantastic introduction to Japan for my family seeing a good mix of the popular spots while fully immersing ourselves in Japanese culture. The planning process was easy and they listened to our questions and provided recommendations on things like having enough space for adults and kids in one room and navigating the train & subway. We appreciated having logistics like airport transfers, an English speaking guide and comfortable hotels. We really enjoyed what Tokyo and Kyoto had to offer plus loved seeing Mt Fuji and Nara. After seeing these highlights, we're excited to travel again with Ume to see more of the country.Show more

  If you want a disjointed experience that was more “Do it Yourself “ and What’s App dependent then you may enjoy this but if you think you are getting an experience with a professional guide who will escort you through a foreign country and explain the traditions, history and culture then this is NOT for you. When I booked this tour I thought it was professional guided and that would escort us though Japan and avert having to navigate transportation and language barriers. I further thought that our guide would be somewhat of a subject matter expect. What we got was a hobbled together 8 day (really 6 if your counting days with a guide and doing more than sleeping)experience of 3 different guides who did not talk with each other and 3 different groups of fellow tourists all on apparently different but overlapping itineraries - in other words no continuity and a very disappointing tour. None of the guides were raised in Japan let alone have lived there for more than a few years or actually be native Japanese. Communication was sent from UME after the tour started that listed the first name and phone number of 3 guides and that each guide would be in touch several days prior to their part of the tour. That was maybe how it was supposed to work. This did not happen and it was not until 9:30 PM the evening of day one when contact was finally made by guide. It simply instructed us to meet in the hotel lobby without an explanation/welcome/ greeting/ This was after a couple of concerned inquiries to UME about the existence of the guide further deteriorating to asking as to their health since they seemed to be missing. Along the tour, as more disjointed experiences occurred, UME pleasantly replied with the phone numbers and implied expectations that we could just reach out to those guides instead of receiving the service of a professional tour company for which we had paid. We were expected to navigate the huge and confusing Tokyo train stations alone. The business model is to leave one guide in one city and then meeting up with another in another different city. We were dropped off across the street and the entry was pointed out. We were given a self made video that did not include information on where lifts or escalators were located as we’re were handling large suitcases.At least they could have escorted us to the platform and saw that we got on the correct train. As for the tour, when the very strong accent of 2 of the 3 Chinese guides was adjusted for, the commentary was exceedingly slim. Lack of vocabulary left explanations modest at best. The focus of the guides in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka seemed to be more the best places for photos vs why that place was photo worthy. The guide to Hiroshima was the only professional She made contact several days before her part of the tour, actually escorted in between towns, navigated the trains, train tickets and also had the attraction tickets pre purchased so we didn’t have to wait for the guide to stand in the queue at the ticket desk for the entrance to the site as we had done with the previous guides. She was knowledgeable about the site and had an accent that was understandable. The itinerary was heavy on Shrines and Temples which would have been fine had there been at least some information shared by the guides on things we could have perhaps done on our own had we known about them- example: Geishas and Geisha shows are only available in one location but we didn’t know that until we had already left that region. The first 2 guides didn’t seem to know much of the basics of the culture when they were asked- there was no explanation about Japanese education (do kids go to school of Saturday? ) Ikebana, Sumo, Japanese J-pop music, health care, who-why is on their money, or culinary traditions. Everything was communicated via What’s App group messages and those continued several days after our tour was over. I repeatedly requested we stop receiving inquiries from the guide/drivers of the day as to where we were and photos of what the license plate/luggage in the back of the van looked like. UME seemed more focused on filling up the tours then in keeping track of their guests and communicating with them- example: I had told them we were staying an extra night in Osaka at the end of our tour and inquired about staying an extra night in the hotel we would be using on the trip. It was only after the trip was underway did I stumble over the fact that the still published itinerary for hotel had changed and I was left juggling a cancellation and rebooking without any offer for assistance or even explanation from UME- just a vague comment that they usually use the hotel published but they needed to change it for our dates. Tour Radar seems to be a Canadian based clearing house for subcontracted tours. It had good ratings but I don’t understand why. I wonder if the positive reviews were “paid” comments. Never again will I use TourRadar and will actively advise against UME.Show more

  We felt communication was poor, it was unclear where and when we were meeting on the first day. It would be more appropriate if the guide communicated some days prior saying where to meet, confirming the hotel and address. We didnt know if we were being met at check-in or the next day. Notifications were not consistent with the expectations we were given about timing, our guide Kevin had to communicate with Edward as we had no notification from him up until the evening prior to arriving in Kyoto. Other aspects of the trip were better handled, and Sia ShouShou was awesome, sending two detailed itineraries of our time with her 6 days prior to meeting with her. We felt we could have seen more aspects of Japanese culture besides many shrines and temples, and advice on other displays or experiences we could have done in the evening, and advice about where to have dinner locally. The hotels were a good standard and the Osaka Sheraton very handy for trains and transferring to the airport.Show more

I was a bit hesitant as I have never dealt with this company before but the tour company did an excellent job and the clients had a great experience. I will be offering this tour again in the future.Show more

  The tour was well organised and tour guides where locals who were friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. Overall the trip hit all the main areas/sights I wanted to see, however I would say is was rather leisurely and is catered for a more older clientele, or those who perhaps struggle with mobility. Given I am in my 30s and active it was too slow of pace for myself. I would have also expected the hotels to be less dated given it was a 4 star package. Yes the locations of them were central, however 2 of the 3 were dated in my opinion (Tokyo and Kyoto). I would have preferred a better standard of hotel with a less central location. I would also advise longer in Kyoto if you are interested in the more historical and cultural part of Japan. There are a lot of temples and shrines to visit but also other activities like the monkey park, bamboo forest and geisha experiences which are not on the tour. Overall I enjoyed the trip, and went end of November and experience the autumnal colours of the trees which really did make photos look incredible.Show more
