Itinerary
- Day 1
Johannesburg to Graskop
You'll leave Johannesburg early in the morning and drive toward Mpumalanga along the Panorama Route. The journey takes you through countryside with several stops at key viewpoints. God's Window gives you sweeping views across the escarpment, and then you'll visit Bourke's Luck Potholes where two rivers meet and have carved interesting rock formations over time. The Blyde River Canyon is the third-largest canyon in the world, and it's worth taking time to walk around and see the different perspectives. By evening you reach Graskop and settle into your hotel, which gives you time to rest before the safari portion begins tomorrow.

After breakfast you head into Kruger National Park and check in at the lodge. Lunch is your own, so you can grab something at the lodge or rest in your room. In the afternoon you board an open vehicle for your first game drive as the light gets softer. The guide drives slowly through different areas, and you'll likely see elephants, giraffes, lions, and rhinos during this time. You return to the lodge as it gets dark, then have dinner with views or sitting near the fire while you hear sounds from the bush.

Back at the lodge around midday, you have time to eat and rest during the hottest part of the day. Later in the afternoon you go out again in the vehicle, this time looking for leopards, hippos, and different bird species in other parts of the park. If you want to stay put, the lodge has a pool and you can spend the day listening to the bush and reading. Your guide helps arrange whichever option appeals to you.
