Landmarks Accra - Day 2
Lomé
Head to Lomé, Togo's capital, where you'll spend the day exploring different markets and neighborhoods. The central market is where you'll find the famous Nana Benz women who trade European pagne cloths. After that, walk through the administrative quarter to see colonial buildings, then check out the fetish market to see the traditional ingredients and local goods on display.

Ganvié
Start your morning at Dantokpa Market, one of the largest in West Africa with endless goods and activity. Later, you'll relax at Fidjrosse Beach and browse local handicrafts at the Artisanal Center. Before heading out, you'll see the Cathedral of Our Lady of Mercy. In the afternoon, take a motorized boat across Lake Nokwe to Ganvié, a village built on stilts where about 45,000 Tofinou people live, fish, and go about their daily life from dugout canoes.

Abomey
You'll explore the Royal Palaces of Abomey, a UNESCO World Heritage site from the Kingdom of Dahomey founded in 1625. The site has bas-reliefs and royal thrones to see. Next, visit the Dahomey Royal Museum to learn about the kingdom's all-female military unit, the Dahomey Amazons. Stop at Goho Square to see the Statue of King Béhanzin, and finish at the Fetish Market for insights into local traditional beliefs.

Ouidah
This day takes you to Ouidah for a day trip to a significant voodoo center and former slave port. You'll visit the Python Temple where pythons are respected as sacred representations of gods. After that, head to the Gate of No Return, which marks the town's past as a major slave port and where countless enslaved Africans departed.

Porto Novo
You'll explore Porto Novo's cultural heritage sites throughout the day. Visit Musée Honme, the former residence of King Toffa, which displays royal artifacts. See the Great Mosque with its Afro-Brazilian architecture, then admire the cathedral's stained glass windows and stone details. End your afternoon at the Alexandre Sènou Adandé Ethnographic Museum, established in 1957, which shows Benin's cultural artifacts.

Cotonou to Accra
You'll drive back to Accra from Cotonou, spending the journey reflecting on your time in Benin. Think back on the vibrant colors and variety of Dantokpa Market and the peaceful moments at Fidjrosse Beach.

Accra
You have a free day in Accra to do as you like. Head to one of the city's popular beaches to relax with sun and sea, and grab food from local vendors. Or browse contemporary and traditional African art at galleries, and stroll through popular streets with shops, restaurants, and nightlife options.

- Day 9
Kakum
This morning you'll visit Cape Coast Castle and Elmina Castle to explore Ghana's history. Cape Coast Castle started as a Portuguese trading post in 1555 and developed by the Swedish in 1653 before becoming central to slave trade. Elmina Castle was built by the Portuguese in 1482 and was the first European structure in Sub-Saharan Africa. You'll explore the grounds and rooms. Later, head into Kakum National Park for a forest walk where you'll spot birds, butterflies, and possibly monkeys. The highlight is the canopy walkway, Africa's only aerial walkway through trees, spanning 1,000 feet with seven bridges and platforms over 150 feet high.

Accra
You'll explore Accra's cultural and historical landmarks before heading to the airport. Visit the W.E.B. Du Bois Center honoring the Pan-Africanist who lived in Ghana. Then go to Independence Square, the ceremonial grounds for national celebrations. Next is the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum and Museum, dedicated to Ghana's first President and where he declared independence. Dr. Nkrumah and his wife are buried here. After that, transfer to the airport for your departure.
