Dakar
You'll arrive at Dakar airport and get transferred to your hotel. The capital sits on the Cap Vert peninsula jutting into the Atlantic, and you'll notice the vibrant music and colorful energy right away as you settle in.

Dakar - Gorée Island
Start with a city tour through Dakar, checking out Independence Square and the artists' village. After that, take a boat to Goree island where you'll walk through colorful colonial houses and quiet alleyways. The slave house (note it closes Mondays) offers important historical context about this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You'll stay overnight on the island.

- Day 3
Gorée Island - Lac Rose - Lompoul Desert
After breakfast, head back to Dakar by boat, then drive to Lac Rose, the second saltiest lake in the world. You'll see traditional salt extraction methods during a drive around the shore. The route continues north with a stop at the turtle village in Noflaye where over 400 turtles live in a botanical garden. Later, transfer to Lompoul desert for sunset, ride a dromedary across the sand dunes, and experience djembe music during dinner.

Free time lets you explore on your own or check out the Jean-Mermoz Museum, Photography Museum, or enjoy the jazz clubs and nightlife.

Saint-Louis - Djoudj National Park
Take a traditional pirogue boat to Djoudj National Park (November through April; Barbarie Ornithological Reserve other months). You'll see thousands of birds like pelicans, flamingos, and storks, plus crocodiles, lizards, and other reptiles. In the afternoon, a horse-drawn carriage tour covers Saint-Louis including the fishing district on Langue de Barbarie, the cathedral, government buildings, Faidherbe Bridge, and the mosque. Dinner wraps up the day in the lagoon island.

Saint-Louis - Sine Saloum Delta National Park
Head south after breakfast and stop in Touba to visit the Great Mosque with its distinctive four 66-meter minarets and a fifth 86.80-meter minaret towering above large domes, one of Africa's largest mosques. Continue to Toubacouta in the heart of Sine Saloum Delta National Park. This evening includes a short boat trip to bird breeding and roosting grounds, returning at sunset.

Sine Saloum Delta - Dassilame Serer
Travel to Dassilame Serer, a village that keeps its original traditions intact. You'll explore the fertile area with its farmers and colorful birds, and might come across a 'louma', which brings together villagers from surrounding areas for markets. Canoe through winding channels in the national park where you'll see oyster catchers harvesting mussels and fishermen in brightly painted pirogues. Visit Sipo island with its 80 inhabitants from three ethnic and religious groups. The day includes walks on sandy beaches, swimming, and animal watching from a viewing platform.

Sine Saloum Delta - The Gambia - Casamance
Drive from Senegal through The Gambia (north to south) and back into Senegal's Casamance region, crossing the 950-meter Senegambia Bridge over the Gambia River. After roughly five hours, you'll arrive in Koubalan and settle into the village camp on mangrove forests. Spend the afternoon exploring the village before returning for dinner and a folklore performance.

Casamance - Ziguinchor
After breakfast, drive to Ziguinchor fishing port and board a colorful pirogue on the calm Casamance River with lush mangrove vegetation and islands. Stop at bird island to see waders, pelicans, cormorants, kingfishers, and other species. You'll pass floating camps of night fishermen before reaching Djilapao village on a peninsula with an artistic museum showing daily life. Return to Ziguinchor for dinner and overnight stay.

Ziguinchor - Cap Skirring
Start with a city tour of Ziguinchor, Basse Casamance's capital founded by the Portuguese in 1560 where Creole Portuguese is spoken. You'll see St. Maure market where locals shop and the French cultural center with authentic local-inspired design. Travel to Cap Skirring visiting Oussouye, ruled by a king always dressed in red, and the Kalamisso Center where physically disabled women work to improve their conditions. Stop at Edioungou for its famous potters. Finish the afternoon at Cap Skirring's beaches.

Cap Skirring - Elinkine
Head to the Christian village of Mlomp this morning, known for its multi-storey huts, and visit the traditional Diola Museum. Continue by car to Elinkine, the fishing center, where you can experience fishermen arriving with their catch. Take a pirogue to Kachouane island, then return by pirogue to the coastal resort of Cap Skirring.

After breakfast, you'll head out on foot or by car to the Eco Park reserve to see various tree species and wildlife that are threatened with extinction. From there, continue to Djembering village where you can walk around the famous kapok trees and check out the pristine beach, including the traditional Bombolong Tam-Tam telephone located in the neighborhoods. On the way back to Cap Skirring, stop by Sangawatt's open-air museum where an anthropologist shares insights into local social customs and spiritual traditions.
