  First: the positive. Both Nik and Anouk were extremely friendly and helpful. They always handled my bags and offered an arm or hand when I needed assistance. Most of the communication between the two vans and the clients was done by WhatsApp. Unfortunately this sometimes resulted in inconsistent information being communicated to different people. At planned stops, or if I asked specific questions in the van about Iceland or what we were seeing, they both were forthcoming. However other than that, very little commentary was provided about what we were seeing on the very lengthy van drives. My criticisms are more directed to how the trip was planned, structured and sold by Let’s Book Travel. Now: the negative. On several of the days, the itinerary was quite different than what was described in the tour brochure. It would appear that Let’s Book Travel oversold the trip and then had to scramble and find another two guides to put together another trip—the trip that we experienced. Day 1: there was quite a bit of confusion about picking the clients up at KEF. It was going to be structured so that the flights arriving earlier would be taken to the hotel rather than waiting at the airport for the last flight to come in. We ended up waiting, sitting in the vans, for almost 2 hours for the last passengers to clear passport control. We did have a late lunch at the local tomato farm and completed the golden circle tour. However we did not arrive in Reykjavík until after 6pm. The walking tour was then postponed until day two. Day 2: after the walking tour of Reykjavík, we did depart for the north. The light lunch at one of Iceland’s oldest bakeries was delightful (again at our expense). However being so far behind schedule, we had no time to explore the downtown or the shops. The stop at the “geothermal swimming pool in a gorgeous location” was, in my impression, a relatively small hole in the ground with extremely dirty water. Then, at the hotel, there were insufficient rooms booked at the Hjalteyri Hotel. So six of us were moved to another hotel. Although we did have a wonderful dinner at Nik‘s restaurant which specialized in Iceland specialties and cuisine, we did not return to the hotel until midnight. Day 3: there was no tour of Akureyri for a Citi walk in two hours of free time. As I recall, we made no stop at Laufas to see the working museum with turf houses. We also did not visit Myvatn Nature Baths. Dinner was back at Nik’s restaurant, I elected not to go to because I couldn’t think about another return to the hotel at midnight (they apparently returned after 10 PM). Therefore we neither had dinner at the farm Vogafjos nor had time back in Akureyri, per the tour description. Day 4: to get an early start in case of traffic, Nik and Anouk packed a nice breakfast picnic which we stopped along the way at a beautiful setting to enjoy. However we did not see the Seal Museum or have lunch upstairs in the museum. We arrived before check-in time at the Hotel Fransiskus, we went to a children’s park and enjoyed a picnic lunch that Nik and Anouk. Day 5: we did not have a stop in Borgarnes home to the “Settlement Center.” Again, with such lengthy drives between stops, we did not have time for the Perlman Museum. Additionally the “Fly over Iceland” was postponed until the next day. Day 6: after breakfast a group of us did go to the “flyover Iceland “. However, according to Nik this was not included in the price of the tour. I paid $42.75 for this. Additionally, we were in two different vans. Because I am the smallest and shortest, I was assigned to the front middle seat. However with the dash board configuration the only way I could sit was with my spine twisted and with my knees shifted to the right. This was extremely uncomfortable as several of the days we spent a cumulative time in the van of up to eight hours. There should’ve been some discussion in the tour brochure of the amount of travel time each day. I think from this summary you can see the trip that I booked and paid for was not the trip that was delivered. I presume that several museum entry fees and meals were included in the price of the trip, as well as the flyover Iceland admission. I’m asking for a refund for those amounts. I believe this is reasonable.Show more

  Reasons for rating. We enjoyed the trip and got to see a lot of Iceland. Unfortunately, there were quite a few things promised in the destination booklet that we would see but we did not.. For example, on Day 3 according to the booklet we were supposed to go to Myvatn lake to see the volcano, boiling mud and fumerals, hot rivers etc. We did none of these. We also did not swim in the nature baths. Also missed was the dinner on the farm, Vogafjos. Day 4: We were promised to visit the Seal Museum of Iceland with a buffet style lunch, which we did not do. Lastly, on our return to Reykjavik we did not go to the Perlan museum; Also, we had to pay ourselves for the 'fly over Iceland,' even though the brochure indicated it was covered. If there were costs specifically applied for the events described above that were allocated to our tour price, I believe we are entitled to a partial refund for them. I know others on the tour feel the same way, Overall, we feel the guides tried to do their best, and were very friendly/helpful, but communication could have been better. There were times we didn't know we when we going to eat or what we were doing. It would have been nice to have more down time as well. William and JoannShow more
