You'll arrive in Porto and spend time walking through one of Portugal's most significant UNESCO World Heritage cities. The medieval neighborhoods here have real character, and you'll find over 150 classified monuments scattered throughout. After wandering around, you'll head across the Ribeira to check out the famous Port wine cellars that the city is known for.

Porto to Miranda do Douro
Today involves traveling through the Douro, which happens to be the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. You'll see the Douro River Gorge rising over 200 metres high, which creates dramatic scenery as you move through the region. By afternoon, you'll arrive in Miranda do Douro, a charming town with whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets perfect for wandering.

Landmarks Douro River Gorge - Day 3
Douro International Nature Reserve
This is where your cycling adventure starts, taking you through the Douro International Nature Reserve surrounded by varied landscapes and wildlife. You might spot wild boar, goats, and cattle roaming the area, and if you're lucky, occasionally Iberian wolves. The region has over 170 bird species, so keep an eye out for golden eagles and Egyptian vultures during your ride.

Landmarks Douro International Nature Reserve - Day 4
Torre do Moncorvo
You'll cycle along what used to be a railway line, now an ecological trail winding through woods, forests, and fields with olive and almond trees. The route takes you through small villages where you might meet local shepherds and hear about rural life here. By evening, you'll reach Torre do Moncorvo and stay at a guest house where you can try locally produced liqueurs.

Vila Flor to Sabrosa
Cycling continues alongside the Douro River through the escarpments of Terra Quente, known for its fertile soils producing fruits, wines, and quality olive oils. Dinner features authentic regional food including local cheeses, sausages, fresh baked bread, and homemade wines. Later, you'll take a night walk under the clear Transmontano sky to see the area from a different perspective.

Peso da Régua
You'll cycle through Douro valleys on scenic pathways that lead down toward the river, with vineyards all around cooling the air. Arriving in Peso da Régua, you'll participate in wine tastings covering white, red, and liqueur varieties. Accommodation is at a rural location with views across the Douro valleys, and breakfast includes regional jams, hams, and local wines.
