Really good value for money. The accommodation was pretty good. Our awesome Tour Guide, Jamie Seymour was very knowledgeable about the country, not just the history like other tours I've been on. We saw and experienced more than most people doing Japan. There's a lot of walking, which you'd expect, but everyone kept up and no-one got left behind. Tour assistant Kanako and coach driver Yamamoto-San were so helpful and cheerful. They made a pretty special team. Even though I couldn't handle the food, it wasn't an issue because the country and the people were beautiful. I'm looking forward to my next Expat tour! Thanks Tourradar and Expat Explore who made the booking process so easy!

We had such a wonderful time on this tour. We saw so much of Japan and the tour guide Jamie was exceptional. He gave us great tips on culture and helped with some essential language tips. He was fun and very well supported by Kaneko who went ahead and purchased tickets so we moved through busy attractions with ease. The bus driver Yamamoto-san was just incredible as well. The Ninja experience and dressing up as Sumo was an extremely fun day. I highly recommend doing this. The open air museum and shirakawa-'go

Im looking to book a trip for my wife and step daughter who is 20. On this tour is there time for her to explore anything Anime related? Arcades? Manga ? She is fascinated by these things Japanese and wanted to ask before booking.

    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten November 2025

Tokyo is the best place for anime lovers! Popular districts like Akihabara (anime, manga, arcades, collectibles), Shibuya, and Harajuku can be explored during free time. While the tour does not include dedicated anime-themed activities as part of the standard itinerary, there is enough flexibility and free time for her to explore these interests at her own pace. The cities visited — especially Tokyo — are rich with anime culture.

How will my wife and step daughter get from the Tokyo airport to the hotel to meet the group? Having never been to Japan they are nervous they won't be able to figure this out.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten November 2025

Yes, you can absolutely pay the deposit today. After the deposit has been made, you can go to the payment section in your TourRadar account and select the additional amount you'd like to pay at any time.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten November 2025

The easiest way to get from the airport to a hotel in Japan is usually the airport express train (like the Narita Express, Skyliner, or Haruka Express). It's fast, reliable, and offers plenty of space for luggage. You can also book a private transfer in advance — it's often cheaper than a taxi, very comfortable, and completely hassle-free.

    Single supplement
    Tour Details
    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten September 2025

The single supplement upgrade for a private room is indeed available only in limited slots as an add-on. If this option is sold out, the default price is based on a twin-share room, and as a solo traveler you would be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. Upon checking, for March and April 2026 departures, the only date that still has an available private room is 4 April 2026.

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten September 2025

The single supplement is an additional cost that allows solo travelers to have their own private room throughout the tour, rather than sharing on a twin-share basis with another traveler. This option is entirely up to you and can be selected at the time of booking, subject to availability.

I was having trouble logging in. I am just in such a quandary as to what tour to book; my grandson decided that he didn't want to go so I'll be booking for just me and my granddaughter. I'm really not wanting for us to be changing hotels every night. And not wishing to be on a bus for hours. Now, I found a tour that was I think 11 or 12 days and used trains to go from city to city and stayed in hotels for more than one night. But I lost my internet connection and now can't find it. It was about 3,700. Do you possibly know which one it was? (the photo was a geisha) I'm going to keep trying because it had so much, plus daily breakfasts. I would really appreciate your assistance.

Could you please confirm if a triple room option is available? If not, is there an option for connecting rooms?

    • Expat Explore TravelOperatorWritten September 2025

We unfortunately do not offer triple rooms, as our tours operate on a twin-share room accommodation policy. In addition, since your grandchildren will be minors, they must each be accompanied by an adult. This means that with three travelers, one minor would be left without an adult companion. For odd-numbered travelers, the standard option is either to purchase a single supplement upgrade for a private room or to be roomed with another solo traveler of the same gender. However, this second option is not applicable to minors. Because of this, we would require that you have another accompanying adult on the tour to ensure both minors are paired with an adult.

I left a message with you concerning your tour and asking if I could get a triple room for me and my two grandchildren (14& 16) I neglected to tell you when we will be traveling… it would be July of 2026; I do hope this will work as your tour sounds wonderful !

We unfortunately do not offer triple rooms, as our standard is twin-share accommodation with two people per room included in the pricing. A third or odd-numbered traveler would either need to be roomed with another solo traveler of the same gender or opt for the single supplement upgrade for a private room. Since your group includes minors, please note that a minor must always be accompanied by an adult and cannot be roomed alone or with a stranger, so for your group of three it would be ideal to have one more adult join the tour.

Has the hotel in Tokyo been chosen yet?

Most of the hotels we use (for our Japan tours) are part of our contracted partners and usually end up being the same as the finalised ones, but please note they are still subject to change. The final and confirmed hotel list will be included in your Tour Leader Announcement (TLA), which is emailed to you between 10–5 days before departure.
