Itinerary
- Day 1
Cairo to Fayoum Oasis
Your hotel pickup happens in the morning for the roughly 95 km drive southwest to Fayoum Oasis. Once there, you'll walk through Wadi Al-Hitan (Valley of the Whales), a UNESCO World Heritage Site where fossilized whale skeletons from over 40 million years ago are scattered across the desert floor. From there, Mudawara Mountain gives you panoramic views across the surrounding landscape. After that, head to Wadi El-Rayan to see the waterfalls that connect two desert lakes, which is unique to Egypt. Magic Lake comes next, and this is where you can try sandboarding or dune driving if you're interested (both optional). A traditional BBQ lunch happens at a desert camp overlooking the lake before heading back to your Cairo hotel by evening.
